PLEASAN- T- The North Sanpete Lady Hawks softball team added a pair of important conference wins last week to stay within a game of Lehi for the Region 8 championship. North Sanpete is now 1 while Lehi sets the pace with a perfect 0 record. The teams faced each other on Tuesday, April 20, (results not available at press time) with the winner earning the inside track to the Region 8 crown. The Lady Hawks started their week on Wednesday, April 14, finishing a game started two weeks earlier at Carbon which was interrupted by rain. The game was resumed in the bottom of the fifth with North 6-- 3. 4-- including a double. Haylee Larsen also doubled for North Sanpete. After Tuesday's region game at Lehi, North Sanpete will play a couple home games this week just for fun. On Thursday, they will host Pleasant Grove from the 4A ranks at 3:30 p.m., and on Saturday they will entertain 2A San Juan at 1 p.m. With an overall record of the Lady Hawks are led by Aubrey Poulson with a batting average of .438. Lindsay Larsen is hitting at a .406 clip and laylee Larsen is hitting .370. Janelle Kendall leads the pitching staff with an ERA of 0.75 while Mandy Johnson has an ERA of 2.02 and Laney Jacobson is at 2.69. Poulson finished 5-- Jessica Aagard and Aubrey Poulson to make the final score 5-- the game itself with four errors which led to four unearned runs for the Hawks. On Thursday, North Sanpete traveled to Delta where they downed the Sanpete leading the Dinos, North Sanpete relief pitcher, Janelle Kendall struck out five over the last three innings to preserve the win. The Lady Hawks added a run in the top of the seventh on singles by Kailee Christiansen, 2-- 0 7-- 3. Kendall came on in relief of starter Mandy Johnson when Johnson was knocked out of the game two weeks earlier after taking a line drive off her knee. Johnson was credited with the win and Kendall earned a save. Lacy Timothy took the loss for Carbon. Christiansen finished for North Sanpete. Others will be disappointed because they didn't draw. If they want a general buck deer permit, though, they'll want to mark June 17 on their calendar. That's when general buck deer permits not taken in the draw wiU become available on a d first come, basis. Everyone who applied for a 2004 Utah big game permit should receive a letter in the mail by April 28, letting them know if they drew a permit. Beginning at 8 a.m. April 28, hunters who don't receive a letter in the mail can learn whether they drew by logging on the Internet at wildlife.utah.gov or by calling the Utah Wildlife Administrative Services office at 28, first-serve- Results of the limited entry, and Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit permit draw also will be posted at DWR offices in Ogden, Salt Lake City, Springville, Vernal, Price and Cedar City; the Lee Kay Center for Hunter Education in Salt Lake City; and the Cache VaUey Hunter Education Center in Logan.
