Ji4. mi Bald eagle day February 7 in FG SALT LAKE CITY-- A chance to view and learn about bald eagles will be available Feb. 7, as the Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) hosts its annual Bald Eagle Day. Admission to the annual Watchable Wildlife program event is free. Viewing times are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Viewing will take place at the Fountain Green State Fish Hatchery, located 1 mile northeast of Fountain Green. There will be a Bald Eagle Day sign posted. There are many other sites in the state to view the bald eagles. For information about Bald Eagle Day, 1 call (801) and ask for Walters. Spotting scopes will be set up at the viewing site, and DWR biologists and volunteers will be available to help viewers spot eagles and to answer any questions they 538-477- may have, said Bob Walters, Watchable Wildlife coordinator for the DWR. Displays also will be set up and pamphlets and other materials about bald eagles will be available at either no cost or for a minimal cost. The most comfortable times to view are late morning or early afternoon, when the warmest temperatures and the best visibility are available. The warmer temperatures are especially important if youre bringing young children. Viewers can expect to see eagles during the late morning and early afternoon but not as many as just before sundown, when eagles go to roost for the evening. At most sites, the .best time to see the greatest number of eagles is usually from 2 to1 '4 p.m., Walters said. He advises those attending to dress warmly and, if theres snow on the ground, wear waterproof boots. For those interested in photographing the eagles a bruises, the animal and DWR personnel were safe and sound. The moose charged up Thunderbird Lane, everything seemed fine until the moose came to a halt behind a church. When the officers arrived, the big bull took out a chain link fence and kept running until it was stopped in a neighborhood back yard. He was very upset with us chasing him, Roach added. It took a little bit of patience and expertise. The moose was finally tranquilized. It took a team of 10 DWR officers, firefighters, police and neighbors to get the 800 pound moose out of the yard. Both animals were taken to the wilds of Sanpete County and released on public land that biologists say is fertile moose habitat. Early Wednesday morning, Roach, along with DWR biologists, tracked a moose to Bonneville Golf Course and pulled out the tranquilizer gun. Their fun had just begun. As the dart hit the moose, it darted across the links into a where it stopped, c, six-fo- with a surprised face-to-fa- mailman.
