In the early 1940s, she met a dashing young man from Manti named J. Wallace Wintch. On June 18, 1941, marriage vows were exchanged and city life gave way to rural ranching and small town citizenship. The basics of her character never changed. Pursuit of education, appreciation of art and music, and compassion for all humanity remained, and remains today, as solid and profound as when she became a bride. Joining Wallace, Lonnie assumed the role of a ranchers wife, became a secretary and a director of the Wintch Livestock Company, and soon was an active member of the Wool Growers Association of Utah. The family increased to five as John, Manti; Richard, St. and George; Mary, Provo, arrived in that order. The Wintchs also opened their home to an exchange student from Italy, a young girl and boy from the Navajo Reservation, a dislocated man from WWII, helping him find employment.
