It isn't known SPRING SANPETE COUNT- Y- Area residents and businesses suffered last Monday due to the nearly county-wid- e power outage that affected tow ns north of Gunnison to Nephi in Juab County. It was reported that Utah were called to find a downed line in a remote area near Jerusalem, which was not within easy access. The power went out at about 1 p.m., leaving most businesses and area residents paralyzed the cold temperafrom shivering tures. The power returned to north Sanpete residents about 7:30 p.m., but was uneven with brown outs which included high and low cycles. In a Utah Power & Light press release, Lori Hansen, local customer business manager, stated that the outage was due to vandalism from an insulator that had been shot out. She warns of the extreme danger from that practice since insulators protect the poles and towers from becoming energized creating the potential to seriously injure or kill anything that comes in contact with them. David Allred stated there were some questions concerning one new and a existing subdivision, which may need a consultation with the city attorney. Allred looked through the Ordinance Book sent by Sterling Codifiers. He has made some notes in the book but thinks it looks good. The Zoning Ordinance docs not specify who may call a meeting for any of the specific committees. The Planning and Zoning Committee will need to look into this and give its recommendations to the city council. Police report The Police Department is working to find people who have not paid court fees. A new' police vehicle will be ordered, and will take eight to 10 weeks to deliver. The new all terrain vehicle ordinance seems to be going well, with few incidents. There was report of a gun shot in town early one morning. Officer White responded, but was unable to identify who had shot. Officer Pyper has been subpoenaed to testify in a trial, but is unsure how long it will last. Mayor Allred expressed appreciation to the police department for the good they are doing. Fire department burn which was A controlled cancelled, so it will be resched uled. The pump trucks were tested and will need some woik done to be compliant. The fire department computer was ordered and w ill be paid for by a grant. Miscellaneous A young man would like to put a new fence in front of the Pioneer Cemetery for his Eagle Scout Project, and asked if Spring City would help to pay for this. The city will need to see a written proposal. The Daughters of Utah Pioneers might also help with the project. A representative from Horseshoe Mountain Hardware stated that Spring City would be able to buy products trom them wholesale. Councilman Cynthia Allred was given a set of Christmas lights they have exclusively for cities and local businesses. Dave Sanions asked if he could stall the next phase of the sprinkler system, but will not be able to because of low funds. Neil Sorensen and Yon Nlellor will do some work on the governor at the hydro electric plant to keep it going until it can be replaced. The probationary period for Yon Mcllor is up. therefore he will be given the 75 cent raise that was determined when lie was hired. The electric department would like to get started on more line upgrades as money allows.
