Show Three on three league Page fcour - The Pyramid - February 17, 1999 City selects new committee MT. by Murphv-Marti- n j PLEASAN- North T- Sanpete County recently formed a committee with recreational Monte Wheeler. Chad Larsen, and Stephanie Blain. as committee representatives. It was reported that every town has two representatives except Wales which only has one following the North Sanpete School District boundaries. Committee members will be looking at facilities for youth to seniors. The committee would like to be set up with taxing authority, so each citizen can be assessed. A motion was passed declaring support of a North Sanpete Service District. Motion carried unanimously. Industrial Park No action was taken concerning Builder Jim Shaw of Shaw Homes Inc., would like to set up model homes on the two lots that he has purchased in the Industrial Park. Mayor Christensen report- ed that Shaw is anxious to get homes where people can view them, even though they would be without electricity or water. Councilwoman Jarrett said she wanted to be sure that any ongoing work will not disturb those homes. The Industrial Park needs wa- ter, sewer, electricity and roads. Councilman Blackham reminded the Mayor to let buyers coming into the Industrial Park know that the land is not for speculation purposes. If people buy, they must set up a business. Mayor Christensen disagreed, saying the city benefits regardless. Blackham returned that it was not the intent of the park, where Mayor Christensen said that the of the park were in the hands of Doug Heiden, Cedar West, and Jim Shaw, Shaw Homes, Inc. Police Department A motion was passed to enter into an interlocal agency agreement to hire a resource office for schools despite Matt Berlins questioning the councils stand on supporting the officer in the high school and middle school. Berlin said, "This officer is going to cost $47,000 and it is sending the wrong message to The courts are not supportive. At this point, the kids are just thumbing their noses at the police." Larsen went on to explain, It isn't just young people. Police caught two suspects involved in burglaries. These suspects apparently stole eight weapons and over $1,000 in tools. Officer Lance Graham tracked the stolen merchandise down to a variety of pawnshops. The pawn tickets were in the suspects names and had the suspects fingerprints on the pawn stubs. But because the pawn shops were located m Provo. Orem and Salt Lake City, the judge of the Sixth District Court kicked the case out indicating that those other cities could prosecute." Chief Larsen continued, "How does the police give back to residents and explain that just because they were robbed in Mt. Pleasant there wont be a trial in to testify. T with the youth especially fighting." Mayor Christensen went on to explain that this idea did not come from the police, but from a group of concerned citizens who have been holding public meetings for the past 10 months. Larsen continued saying the officer is truly a resource that children will be able to go to. The proposed officer will not be in uniform, he will be around to help with dances and football First round Consolation First round was somewhat successful, J.B.
