Occasionally, if the movie is good enough and makes it to Sanpete, Ill see it a second time. Apparently my son is a repeat customer at the Towne Theater. 1 regret to say that I have learned that he has seen the show "Waterboy" four times already . He may be solely responsible for holding that show over. Whenever Adam Sandler makes a movie 1 say to myself, "Thats one I can watch on video." Ive yet to watch one at the theater or on video. Ive seen trailers of "Billy Madison," "Happy Gilmore." and "The Wedding Singer." I just havent been able to mus- ter the motivation to commit myself to the uncertain pros- that I might enjoy one of these shows (1 must have a fear that I will like them.) On the other hand. I highly recommend the two shows I have seen recently. "Youve Got Mail" and "Patch Adams" should both hit Sanpete soon. "Mail" is another pairing of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, You'll remember them togeth- m "Sleepless in Seattle." My opinion is that this film about an interesting relation- ship which develops over the Internet is more entertaining and better overall than "Sleep- less" which was a fine show, "Youve Got Mail is rated PG and is like the motto of a cigarette company which ad- -' vertized on television years ago. (Was it L&M?) The motto, as I remember was, "Outstanding, and they are mild." In other words, not only was this show well-wri- tthe action ten and and dialogue will not offend the sensibilities of 90 percent of Sanpete County. (My con- sidered opinion; unscientific margin of error 17 percent.) The movie "Patch Adams," rated PG13, contains a few crass words and very small doses of material which will make some of the audience uncomfortable for a few mo- - cks REXBURG, College students to its named recently 1998 fall semester honor roll. ID-Ri- My wife and I and two sat on the very front year-old- s row for a showing of this film. It was a wonderful time at the movies. The show demanded three things from me: 1) it made me think; 2) it made me laugh out loud; 3) it made me cry a little, Thinking and laughing are frequent behaviors for me in the movies. Shedding tears is much more rare. I was glad for the extra moisture on my sometimes dry contact lenses, However. I'm still not man enough to weep without em- barrassment. So I had to quick- ly wipe tears off my cheeks the entire while believing audience behind me was fo- cused on my state of emotions. (Maybe Ill write a piece on "weepy movies" sometime. The action takes place at the University of Virginia in the late 60searly 70s. Patch's methods of be- friending and bonding with patients by providing smiles and laughter is met with oppo-e- r sition from the establishment. He is "guilty" of "excessive happiness." Monica Porter (I thought she was Julia Roberts at first) plays the "reluctant to get involved" fellow medical student who becomes the love interest. Shes a beautiful and fine actress. I suspect well see her appearing in major roles as a result of her work in "Patch." So there you have it, high recommendations for two fine shows which should be in Sanpete anytime now.
