PLEASAN- T- North Sanpetes brand new ambulance! was totalled last week when it collided with a vehicle driven by an alleged drunk driver while transporting an infant to Primary Childrens Medical Center. The 98 Ford F350 had been in service just five days prior to the accident, which occurred at 1:55 a.m., July 8, at the intersect tion of 400 South 700 East, iii Salt Lake City. The ambulance driver Steven L. Atwood, and a member of the ambulance crew, Layne Larsen, both received injuries and were transported to area hospitals following the collision as were the driver and three passengers in the 94 Nissan Pathfinder which was struck by the ambulance, according to die accident report filed by Officer W.F. Poulsen of the Salt Lake Police Department. Two other ambulance personnel, Cathie Shepherd and Lisa Jeffs, were not transported for treatment according to the report. The infant, who was not injured, was transported to Primary Childrens Hospital. The ambulance was traveling east on 400 South; as it entered 4 . Members of the group include Paul Hansen, a guitar player and an award winning songwriter. He has been singing and performing for many years, he just released his first CD titled "Love In The Heart." Brett Donnelly plays bass and has been a bluegrass and symphonic player for over 20 years. Before moving to Salt Lake City in 1995, he was a member of High Cotton, a successful Los FOUNTAIN GREE- N- Calvin g resident and Allred, a retired sheepman and rancher, has been selected as the 1998 Grand Marshal for Lamb Day, July 18. A son of Mathias and Rowena Allred, he is married to Rita Sorensen Allred. They are parents of five children: Rowena, David, Colleen, Keith and Karen. They are the grandparents of 19. Allred has been a loyal and devoted citizen of the town during his lifetime. He has served in LDS Church positions many which include bishop and other ward and stake positions and a life-lon- the intersection it struck the southbound Nissan on the front right passenger area. The driver of the Nissan, Zachary T. Carlson, reported to officers that the light was changing to yellow and he did not believe he could stop in time. He also reported he did not see the ambulance approach, even though the transport included lights and siren. Carlson reported he had "two beers" since "midnight" when he had turned 21. The accident report said that there was an odor of alcohol on his breath and a field test was conducted but the driver was not arrested. Later when the driver was taken to LDS Hospital, the EMTs reportedly discovered a back pack containing beer and liquor on the front floor of the vehicle which a passenger in the Nissan, Nathan Levisson, said belonged to him, the report stated. Levisson said he was watching the alcohol, which was taken into evidence, for Carlson. No citations had been issued as of Monday, according to a representative of the Salt Lake Police Department. MT. PLEASAN- T- The VFW 9276 Ladies "Auxiliary Post recently voted to make monetary donations to a World War II monument to be built in Washington D.C. and to the Mt. Pleasant Senior Citizens Center. They expressed appreciation to everyone who supported the bake sale and raffle during the 4th of July festivities. Quilt winners were Patty Pritchett and Beverly Thompson. Winners of afghans were Scott Hatch and Fred Wilcox. Angeles Bluegrass Band. He is a permanent member of the Salt Lake Symphony and plays with several bluegrass bands in the area. Richard Schmeling is a multitalented performer playing mandolin, guitar and piano. "He has performed with Paul Hansen for several years. He has served as a board member of Utah Acoustic Music Association. He currently performs with various local blue grass bands. Lonnie Hockett is a songwriter and guitar player. He has appeared with the Osmonds, played with Roy Clark and perform at the White House in Washington D.C. He is performed with Paul Hansen for many years. He also performs with local bluegrass bands and is a member of the board of trustees of Utah Acoustic Music Association. Ken Meyer is a talented musiand music producer. He arranges and produces music for many local musicians and is a gifted recording engineer. He plays harmonica, keyboards and guitar. He is the owner of Ken Sounds and produced Winterwoods new recording, "Love In The Heart." He is also a member of Utah Acoustic Musician Association. cian City names winners of tournament Summer reading MT. PLEASAN- T- Winners of the Hub City Days Tennis Tournament were recently announced. Winners received money vouchers to be spent at any Mt. Pleasant business. No cash prizes were awarded. With about 25 participants, Lindsey Gilbert won $50 in mens singles. In young mens singles, Galan Kjar, $100; and Tallon Bird, $50. In young womens singles, Amy Ericksen won $100 and Amanda Gilbert, $50. In the doubles division Brian White and Doug Johnson won $100; Adrian Kjar and Ray John-so- n won $50. MT. PLEASANT The summer story hour held its final session last week and featured a music festival. Activities included playing a marimba and a recycled musical machine, fact painting as well as storytelling. The last drawing for those participating in the Rock n Read contest was held. Winners were Alexis Pond, Cory Gleason and Valerie Hamblin. The next session for the childrens library will begin in the program closes fall. The old adobe home, believed to be I over 100 years old, has been completely remodeled inside and out. It is being highlighted by the Sanpete County Heritage Council. |
