Peterson named to council board SALT LAKE CIT- Y- Steven J. Peterson, a Snow College has been English professor, recently named to the board of directors of the Utah Humanities Council (UHC). Peterson specialize in western American literature and literature of the outdoors. He has also taught in Hawaii and Malaysia. He was founding director of the Great Basm Education Center and is on the advisory committee for dialogue and board of directors of Friends of KBYU. For the past eight years, he has been director of the Bennion Teton Boys Ranch in Victor, ID. UHC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the public's appreciation of the humanities by promoting the understanding of human traditions, values and public policy. The board, which determines UHCs policy direction, evaluates programs and judges grant proposals, includes Utahns from all regions of the state. Nominations are solicited each spring. When selecting new members, the board seeks broad and balanced representation from a variety of disciplines, profession, perspectives and communities throughout the state.
