Show Page Two - The Pyramid - November 20, 1996 $100,000 estimated damages in Ephraim turkey coop fire by Kathy Coon EPHRAIM ONeil Larsens turkey coop south of town was completely lost recently in a fire with estimated damages of $100,-00It was the second fire in four days for city firefighters. Besides the building, seed and equipment were also lost. Assistant Fire Chief Ronde Larsen said firefighters were unable to suppress the fire due to a lack of water supply in that area. Being outside of city limits, they had no control over the amount of water supply available. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, although Assistant Chief Larsen states that it appears it may have been accidental. The coop was being rented from Doug Neeley, who was allowing Stevenson Intermountain NT ARY Merrill Ogden & Calvin Hobbes Big night out in Sanpete We havent talked about Sanpete eating for a while. The Palate Pleaser has been open on Main Street in Ephraim for two or three months I suppose. I found my way in for the first time last Friday night. It was a night out for dinner and theatre. (Manti Arts Council did "Harvey.) I must admit that the name of the cafe has been a put-oto me. Maybe I'm nuts (I usually am), but the name just smacks a little of "tooting ones own hornism". (A philosophy some say originated with Louis Armstrong. It was popularized by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.) The "Palate Pleaser" name to me is akin to dubbing a car repair place "Mr. Goodwrench". Like 1 say. Im probably nuts. These are good names, right? But to me, the name doesnt lend itself to an easy nickname. "Honey, lets go to the Palate tonight for dinner." Or "See ya later, Honey. Im meeting the guys at the Pleasff er." "No, I dont think so cowboy. If theres any pleasing going on itll be right here at home." See what I mean? This name stuff is really straining at a gnat. Its falderal and Like Shakin a "Whats said, espeare name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. And the Palate Pleaser is a "rose". All of us agreed that the meal was The salad was a refreshing change of pace being lettuce, purple onion dressand a light Italian-typ- e ing. The desserts and specialty drinks are a little pricey for this area, but the entrees are moderately priced and quite "painless". (This was demonstrated by the fact that our friends picked up the tab.) Others have discovered this eatery. There was a Friday night crowd in the limited floor space. The Palate Pleaser served exotic drinks (virgin, of course) and ice cream. There was a constant line-u- p of the items. The for those set college busy in and out traffic, with the door opening and shutting fiddle-dee-de- e. top-notc- h. repeatedly, on a brisk evening, was the only distraction of an otherwise delightful dining experience. The play, "Harvey", was very well done. It had great lines that we could all take to heart. Something like, "My mother told me that to get on in life I had to be either smart or pleasant, I tried "smart" for a while. I recommend "pleasant"; and "I struggled with reality for forty years, and 1 think Ive finally won out over it." If you didnt catch the show, find the video. You can borrow it from me if you want. Youll just have to leave some collateral for the loan. A gold watch, your grandmas diamond pendant, the title to the Cadillac - anything like that will do. The video is worth seeing. The inimitable Jimmy Stewart takes the part of Elwood. His best friend, Harvey, happens to be a giant invisible rabbit.... Merrill 0. Some people try, others find fault Dear Editor: Just an observation, there seems to be two kinds of people, those who will and those who wont. Those who do and those who dont. Generally, those who wont and dont, spend their time and energies finding fault with those who are willing to try and do things that will benefit all of us. Mayor Dean F. For instance; do people know that the U.N. wants our govern"famment to impose China-styl- e ily planning" on all U.S. citizens including abortion on demand, infanticide, and forced sterilization? The U.N. is also behind a massive push to force Americans to accept homosexuality as normal. Through its Treaty on Children, they want to deny parents the right to raise their children as they see fit. Finally, Secretary General Boutros-Gha- li has said that he wants to directly tax American citizens to fund the U.N. For these and many other reasons, I strongly oppose the aims of the U.N. I hope readers of this paper will make it a point to learn more about it and its extremist agenda and to ask their elected officials to protest the U.N.s attack on Americas right to exist as a free and sovereign nation.
