Show Page 16 - Pyramid Recreation Guide - May 15. 1996 Life of a child theme of summer reading program The topic for this years summer program at the Mt. Pleasant Library is "Life of a Child in Sanpete County." Each Wednesday beginning June 19 through July 17, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., a childrens centennial event will be held. Targeted for children, ages four to 12, activities, games, stories, and crafts are integrated with the topic of the week to show children about life 100 years ago. Beginning June 19, young readers may stop by the Library and pick up a "Read Utah" activity booklet. Readers who read 100 minutes each week are eligible for prizes, subject to availability. On July 17, a special prize drawing will be held for children who have read in the centennial reading program. A new activity booklet will be k available each week of the summer reading program. On June 19, work and chores 100 years ago; June 26, schools and games 100 years ago; July 3, holidays and recreational activities; July 10, Indian lifestyles 100 years ago; July 17, food preparation 100 years ago. On July 17, there will be an ice cream party for everyone. Gailene Hooper is the program organizer. Wildlife freedom captured in Nick Ryans sculpture Instinct, natural rhythms, and environment constrain wildlife, yet within these limits we perceive the freedom of these wild things. The sculpture of Nick Ryan sensitively communicates these freedoms and rhythms. Sufficiently detailed, the liberated forms and movement are the essence of his work. A native of Northern Illinois lake country and a transplant to Nick spent Utah mountains, thousands of hours in close contact with wildlife. His observations of nature and the West are on outgrowth of his vast experiences as hunter, bird watcher, taxidermist, and teacher of art, natural science and social studies. A - self taught artist, Nick sculpted and drew through out his life. In 1983, he began producing bronzes, thus adding permanence to the body of his work. He says, "My initial joy comes in the completion of a piece that reflects my concepts and visions. This feeling intensifies as others enjoy my work. Sculpture, as an art form, results in an intimate personal experience for artist and viewer alike. well-form- ed five-wee- He married Mary Rasmussen of Lehi. They have lived in for three years. They have Mil-bu- m 10 children and 15 grandchildren. He is retiring after teaching school for 27 years. He will now place his focus on his art. Horses are a common sight during Sanpete parades.
