Show March 27, 1996 - The Pyramid - Page Five Tina Simons crowned Miss Mt. Pleasant MT. PLEASAN- T- Tina Simons, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Simons, was crowned Miss Mt. Pleasant 1996 at the March 23 pageant. She performed a dramatic reading from "The Princess Bride" by Morgen Stem as her talent. Jacci Herring, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Herring, was named first attendant. Her talent was a reading. Julie Cain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kelsey Cain, was named second attendant. She performed a jazz dance to "Stuff Like That There" by Bette Midler. Other participants were Kristy Guymon, performing a piano solo, "Redwood Forest" by David Carr Glover; Chantel Russell, singing "From a Distance" by Bette Midler; and Jamie performing a dance Clo-war- d, Dave Thomas was the Master and Miss Mt. Pleasant 1995, Kae Lynn Hansen was the Mistress of Ceremonies. Judges included: Teri Lee Hammond, Elise Bown and Tammy Jackman, with auditors, Chris Piute and Pam Larsen. of Ceremonies The judges tea was held at Horseshoe Mountain Restaurant and the interview competition was held at the home of A1 and Marty Johansen. Performances will be at 7 p.m. on March 30 at the Eva Beal Auditorium in Manti and at 7 p.m. on April 1 at the Fairview Dance Hall. The North Sanpete High School Jazz Band will be one of the groups performing in the Sanpete Community Theatres production "A Musical Sentimental Journey: A Century of Music." The schools previous flag pole was damaged, so the Lions Club donated and erected the new pole. VFW Post 9276 donated the new flag. Wasatch Academy hosted Regional Music Festival MT. PLEASAN- T- Wasatch Academy hosted 80 Region 14 1A students in a Regional Music Festival, March 18. This provided an opportunity for high school musicians to be rated on the basis of performance of one composi- tion selected by the performer. Students were judged by veteran music teachers for tone intonation, rhythm, quality, balance and blend (for ensembles), technique, interpretation musicianship, articulationdiction as well as poise, general conduct and appearance. Flutist Katie Brown, a junior at Wasatch Academy played a Bach "Sarabande" and received a superior rating, the highest possible. Wasatch Academys choir, who also received a superior rating, sang Thomas Moreleys madrigal "Oh, Fly Not Love. Both Brown and the choir qualified for state competition. The choir consisting of Mar-ci- e Pruitt, Angie McCormack, Terra Larsen, Kim McManus, Brian Carroll and Jeremiah Munson will compete at Woods Cross on April 27. Horses have excellent memories, experts believe, and can recall pleasant or unpleasant experiences many years after they occur. MANT- I- The winter storms that occasionally laid a thin cover of white on Sanpete Valley fields did somewhat better when they hit the high mountain watersheds, according to a snow survey data released last week by the Soil Conservation Service. The survey crew took measurements at two Fairview Canyon courses, and found 18.8 inches of water in 56 inches of snow at the e course. Huntmgton-HorseshoThats 95 percent of the long time average. The water content in the snow pack at the Mammoth Ranger Station was 13.8 inches, 113 percent of normal. Similar figures were true for three Ephraim Canyon courses. At the headquarters site about 10 miles up the canyon, there were 12.4 inches of water in 47 inches of snow, 90 percent, and at the Meadows course near the summit, 21.1 inches of water in 70 inches of snow, 107 percent of average. The Seely Creek Ranger Station along the Skyline Drive contained 12.8 inches of water, a good 108 percent of normal. The Twelve-Mil- e Canyon watershed east of Mayfield fared equally well, with 20.3 inches of water in 73 inches, 103 percent at the Mt. Baldy Ranger Station; and 10 inches of water, 105 Beaver percent at the mid-poiDams. The winter storms were somewhat stingy at Reeses Flat, east of Levan in neighboring Juab County, 7.9 inches of water m 31 inches of snow, 73 percent of normal. The critical Salma Canyon watershed in neighboring Sevier County also fell slightly below the Sanpete precipitation figures at three courses: 13.3 inches (86 percent of average) at Farnsworth Lake; 6.3 inches (70 percent) at the Gooseberry Ranger Station; riciuc ivey springs.
