Call it an extravaganza, a production extraordinaire, amazing, unbelievable, or any other of a list of superlatives, and it wont quite describe the upcoming Sanpete Youth Pioneer Pageant which will be performed June 30, July 1, and July 3 at the North Sanpete High School Football Field. Written and produced by Merrill Osmond (lead singer, Stadi"The Osmonds"-produceum of Fire), the three-nigyouth production is more than a patriotic main event. While holding true to the Stadium of Fire tradition of a gala Fireworks display and the Osmond reputation of a professional first-rat-e production, this pageant is written for, dedicated to, and casted entirely of youth 18 years old and younger. The pageant itself is a portrayal, amid pageantry and fireworks, of the persecution of the Mormons in Missouri, their trek west, and the hardships of early Utah settlers. A will provide local talent plus visiting dignitaryouth ies and a special July 3 performance by the Osmond Second Generation. In addition a top youth performer will be selected from each of Sanpetes three high schools to compete for a chance of appearing on the Eugene Jelesnik show. Efforts are also being made to award KSLs Quiet Pioneer award during the three-nigperformance. Most of the pageant will be performed to a taped sound track with some live portions. Karen Carter of Sandy, who choreographs all of Merrills productions, will choreograph scenes. No youth who desires a part will be turned away, Osmond stresses, explaining that the pageant is an instrument to strengthen young people and to give them an understanding of their heritage as well as a sense of belonging to their generation. If in the process, it entertains and meets expectations as a valuable for the Sanpete Valley Health Care Foundation, then it serves a multiple purpose. The first presentation, in Draper in 1989, was before a crowd of 14,000 people. Since then the Youth Pageant has been performed four additional times, including in Missouri (the family spends part of their time in Branson, MO) where much of the Mormon persecution portrayed in the pageant was carried out in to those pioneers who sacrificed so much to make our lives better. With vision and hard work the youth of this valley will be engaged in a spiritual rebirth that will bring lasting memories for years to come." Merrill and brother Alan have both chosen to locate their fami lies in the Fairview area; their parents and brother, Tom, live in Ephraim.
