Thinking about paying the extra $30 $60 for electronic filing and getting a refund anticipation loan from a commercial tax preparer or bank? Sorry, but it doesn't work this year. There's no bank in Sanpete County this year that is loaning money against your refund that we could find, Bob and Evelyn without Planned Savings Plus. and we called them all. Also, one large commercial tax preparer that promised this year to give refund anticipation loans now informs people asking about their loans through a national 800 number that "due to a last minute change in the tax laws," they can no longer provide these loans and to "please call your congressman to get the law changed." That was not a last minute We wrote about this over a month ago and we stand by our advice, part of which we will repeat. For 1994, the IRS instituted new procedures whereby any refunds due to the Earned Income Credit will only change. be refunded through regular paper checks sent through the mail, rather than direct deposits, which delays the process significantly. Therefore, there is no advantage to electronic filing if most of your refund is due to the Earned Income Credit Also, if your refund is not large, electronic filing is very expensive. Due to the additional costs, we do not recommend Electronic Filing or Refund Anticipation Loans. Unless your refund is about three to four thousand dollars, the interest cost is excessive. Again, if you would like a quick refund, we would suggest first - FILE EARLY. This cuts the IRS's refund time weeks to an average of 4 from 6-- weeks for a regular return. Second FILE A 1040PC. This is a return filed through a personal computer which will reduce your time by probably two weeks over a regular return and costs very little. Third - ORGANIZE YOUR RECORDS. We have a list of "Things to Bring" which help you determine what documents you need for your re- turn which we will give you at no charge. Please call for details or schedule a no-co- initial appointment. Bob and Evelyn with Planned Savings Plus.
