Christensen PRICE-- North Sanpetes Lady Hawks volleyball team defeated Wasatchs Lady Wasps for the 1994 State 3 A Championship title last Saturday. The Lady Hawks went into the tournament in first seed to defend their 1993 title, facing the Emery Lady Spartans in the first match. North Sanpete trailed in the first game, but came back to tie at 6 as Tawny a Crumb powered a kill through three Emery players. Crumb served up three more points as Kathryn McAllister and Shannon Bailey blocks prevented three Emery kills. The Lady Miners scored two more points before the Lady Hawks put the game away with two Crumb power kills and a shanked serve, 6-- 15-- 8. North Sanpete was never able to take the lead, although they tied the score three times. They 8 dropped the second game in a tight contest. Game three saw powerful plays by all five seniors. Emery scored two points before a McAllister kill to the line won Crumb the serve. North Sanpete scored first on a Bailey block and again on an Emery lift. The teams traded several scoreless serves before Crumb delivered back to back power kills to tie the score at The Lady Hawks scored again on a Bailey kill and two Pyper serves before Emery answered with six straight points against the frustrated Lady Hawks. A shanked Shannon Nielson serve scored point number nine for North Sanpete and two McAllister kills to the line tied the score again at Bailey scored a kill and an Emery lift brought the Lady Hawks to game point. A Bailey block gave them the game and the match, Six hours later, the Lady Hawks were up against the Cedar City Redmen.
