PLEASANT-- - Winners of the Horseshoe Mountain Days baby contest were as follows: boys 6 months old: first, Bronco Bolli; second, Steven Booth; and third, Quade Cook. Domestic violence video available now MT. PLEASAN- T- A new resource for victims of domestic violence is available at the Mt. Library. Two video tapes, produced by Women Lawyers of Utah and the Young Lawyers Section of the Utah State Bar, provide information for victims of domestic violence. The video tapes show how to obtain protective orders from the courts and what to anticipate during court proceedings. The tapes address frustrations and misconceptions common in domestic violence situations and help victims understand what resources are available to them. . i" 30-3- 6 13-1- It is estimated that approximately 34,600 women in Utah are abused every year by a male partner. Each year, women in Utah die as a result of assault at the hands of their male partners. Thousands of children live in homes in which male partners abuse women. Outside intervention is often the only way to end the violence. Women Lawyers of Utah, a it volunteer association of more than 300 Utah attorneys, and Young Lawyers produced the two video tapes primarily through a grant from the Utah Bar n. Sanpete County residents who are not current cardholders in the WSRA or any other rodeo association. Exceptions are college and high school contestants. Those wishing to enter other rodeo events, such as "Hometown entries" must live within 50 miles of Manti. Scott McKendrick, state Program Leader at Utah State University, says the purpose is to educate horse owners about back country horse use and how to comply with new regulatidhs. Trail ride planning, etiquette, safety and first aid are also discussed, with the aim of encouraging cooperation among horse riders, land management agencies and environmental groups to improve trails in the back country so they remain available for horse owners and others.
