PLEASAN- T- Senior Layne Thompson received the Outstanding Athlete Award for the 1993-9- 4 season. Thompson, son of Dr. John and Robyn Thompson, lettered in football, basketball and baseball. Thompson also received the Outstanding Offensive Football Player and Most Valuable Basketball Player awards. Head Coach Mark Wootton presented the Outstanding Defensive Football Player award to Ben Morley, who wore Woottons high school football number, 44. Thomas Blackham received the Most Inspirational Football Player Award and Kim Bangerter was named Most Valuable Player of the football season. Coach Ed Staker presented Dalian Jensen the award for Oustanding Rebounder. Jensen also received the Most Valuable Baseball Player award. Staker named Eric Dyches the Most Dedicated Player. Colby Mellor received Most Valuable Wrestler from Coach Randy Tree. The Most Inspirational Wrestler is an award voted on by team members and was presented to Cody Church. Church also received an award for Most Valuable Tennis Player. Casey Anderson also received an award for Most Valuable Tennis Player. Jeremy Madsen received an Academic Award in Tennis. Most Improved Golfer went to Jared Livingston. Coach Alan Peacock presented Daniel Kjar with his region and state track medals. When presenting Logan Freeman with the Most Inspirational Track Athlete award. Coach Peacock said, "Logan Freeman is my hero." Freeman also received an Outstanding Cross Country Runner Award. The other Outstanding Cross Country Runner award went to Cameron Winters. PLEASAN- T- Sadie Christensen received the 1993-9- 4 outstanding athlete award, as well as the Most Valuable Player in volleyball during the North Sanpete High School Girls Athletic Association (GAA) annual banquet. She was a member of the first region championship team as a freshman, and played on eight teams that took region titles, one second place at state and two state championships in 1994. Christensen was also named to the first and second basketball teams. Under the direction of Coach Sharon Christensen, girls and parents enjoyed a meal followed by a speech by Coach Ann Bric-kof Weber State. Bricker formerly coached Christensen, and Coaches Cheryl Hadley and Tracy Hamilton at Snow College. She also coached at the Universiall-sta- te er ty of Utah. y Coach Bill Bedford awarded Celia Anderson the Most Outstanding Runner award. She and fellow team member Lisa Wright were members of the Academic Cross Country team this year. Rebecca Olson, was the Outstanding Team Member this year. "When I think of basketball, I have to think Oh, we were so close!," Christensen said. The team had only three region losses, all by only two points, one in overtime. They took second at region and fourth at state. Natalee Allred received MT. PLEASAN- TAcademys girls soccer team beat Meridian on May 17 to move into the 1A state tournament. The girls lost to Rowland Hall-SMarks in the May 19 first round game, in the Wasatch also lost, for May 20 consolation game Joe. PLEASAN- T- Darrin Plymell, son of Randy and Barbara Plymell of Reno, NV, took first place in the Utah State Golf Tournament with a score of 71. Over 50 players competed at the Southgate Golf Course in St. George for the state title. Pine-vie- near-perfe- ct J hi Coast-to-Coa- st Crumb was also named an Outstanding Softball Player for her four home runs, three triples and two doubles, contributing to the teams state championship. She was also a member of the first basketball team. Coach Shirlene Dovey presented awards to the State Championship Volleyball Team and commented that the team was so good because each individual player was good. Melynda Blain received an Outstanding Volleyball Player award for her two home runs, three triples (one in the championship game) and six doubles. Softballs Most Valuable Player was pitcher JayNette Dodds, who averaged eight strike-ouper game, pitched a perfect game against Carbon and a game against Her hitting was around .500 until shin splint problems later in the season. Dodds was also a member of Softball the Academic Team whose collective GPA was 3.94. The softball team was, commended by Dovey for their eight trophies in eight years. Coach Cheryl Hadley awarded medals earned at the Richfield Invitational and region meets to freshman Heather Pyper in jave- -' lin. Pyper also earned an award for scoring the most points in track.
