PLEASAN- T- Wasatch Academy is the home of the nations first competitive varsity snowboarding team, the leading edge of what is quickly becoming one of Americas most popular winter sports activities. Coach Tom Miller has spent the last seven years racing snowboards, and has taught snowboarding for the last five years at Park West. Assistant Coach Regina alumna 1986, Brown, training supervises and drives the team to Brighton Ski Resort two nights a week for practices. Wasatch us The team has. participated in snowboarding competitions around the Intermountain West, including Wyoming and Idaho. Recently they competed in the Utah Winter Games held at Brighton Ski Resort, where the Tigers dominated the mountain. The two snowboarding events were a giant slalom for timed e competiracing, and a tion for aerial freestyling. The race had 65 participants in 17 different divisions, grouped by age, ability and gender. In the giant slalom, Chris Hausserman took first, Kristy Kalan, Max Roach and Tamerin Smith each placed second, and Lori Tompkins and Brett Everett took third. e In the event, Chris Hausserman and Robert Nystrom took first, Tait Rees came in second, and Don Peavy, Andrew Coslor, Max Roach and Kristy Kalan all brought home a third place.
