Show Page Four - The Pyramid - October 20, 1993 Sports Cross country takes first at Delta DELTA The North Sanpete Cross Country team concluded its preliminary schedule by taking first place honors at the Delta meet on Thursday, Oct. 14. With low scores winning, the Hawks had 35 points, followed by Richfield with 41, Delta 70 and Emery 72. The meet was the first time this season that the boys team had broken the second-plac- e barrier and should provide some extra confidence going into the region meet at Richfield. Pacing the Hawks for the third straight meet was Logan Freeman, who placed second overall with a time of 17:46 on the challenging three-mil- e course dominated by gradual uphill climbs. Freeman was followed closely by senior Cameron Winters, who was third overall in 17:49. Rounding out the scoring for the varsity team were Travis Perry, sixth in 18:24; Scott Jensen, tenth in 18:39; and Yuki Ohta, fourteenth in 18:42. varsity runners included Jared Noorlander, twentieth in 19:14; and Kenny Cox, thirtieth in 20:10. The boys JV runners were led by Kevin Wat boys Non-scori- son (20:15), followed by Carl Larsen, Sam Curtis, Adrian Anderson, Hudson Smith, Ben Eicher, Tom Peterson and Shane Heaps. In the: girls race, it again proved to be a close match-u- p between Emery and Richfield, with the edge going to Emery The North Sanpete sent a strong contingent of four runners to the event, one shy of a complete team but important for experience. Senior Celia Anderson led the way for the team in 25:05. She was followed by Sarah Beardall, 26-4- Lady-haw- 0. ks Daisy Lamb and Lisa Wright. The girls expect to be joined by Liz Eicher in the region meet for their first complete team effort. With four teams taking part in the region meet on Oct. 19, both the boys and the girls teams will need to beat two out of the other three teams present at the competition in order to qualify for the State Championships. The UHSAA State Meet will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake City. Task force makes arrest, seizes marijuana plants MANTI The Quad County Task Force arrested a juvenile for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Badgers wipe out NMMI, by Gary Chidester EPHRAIM The Snow College Badgers used the home field advantage to launch a nuclear attack on the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos 30-- 0 Saturday, Oct. 16. The defense scored first for the Badgers when Falaniko Vitale picked off the first pass from the Broncos and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown and the Badgers led 7-- 0. The Badger defense picked up their first shut-oof the season and only allowed the Broncos into Snow territory on one occasion all afternoon. Benji Nelson added a field goal for the Badgers in the second quarter to give the Badgers a 10-- 0 lead at halftime. Snow College rode the defense for most of the game but the offense showed renewed signs of life in the second half. Joe Borich hit Keli Tohara on a touchdown pass on the first possession of the second half to make the score 17-- 0 and the Badgers were firing like cylinders.
