Show Page Four - The Pyramid - March 31, 1993 Fairy iew museum board signs contract to gain mammoth FAIRVIEW The Fairview Museum of History and Art has signed a contract to provide for the delivery and assembly of the replica of an 11,000 year-ol- d mammoth to be installed after the new facility is completed. The total contract price is $25,000 which includes delivery and assembly by Price engineers. Also included will be a plaque stating that the replica is "authorized by the U.S. Forest Service, and that no copies will be made without permission of that depart- The room in the new Fairview museum where the mammoth will be located will be 32 x 45 x 28 feet. Matthews said, "we have been cautioned by almost every museum director we have been in contact with to build our new facility large enough. With only one or two exceptions, all the museums we have studied have not provided adequate space." "Fortunately, our architectural and engineering personnel have AM PET provided for adequate space in the proposed design of the new facility," Matthews said. The smaller version approved by the Fairview City Council in February will not be large enough to accommodate the replica. The museum board is planning an open house on May 6 which will include scale models and other information about the mammoth exhibit and the new building project. ment. PLEASANT Ann Calvert of Ephraim announces the forthcoming wedding of her daughter, Lori Ann, to Shane D. Simons, son of Suzanne Simons of Moroni and the late El Ray Simons. The couple will be married Friday, April 1, 1993, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The bride is the daughter of the late Ronald Calvert. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Leon Lister of Mt. Les Matthews said afterwards, that because of the huge size of the mammoth, Price engineers had to remove petition walls to accommodate it. The museum did not have the ceiling clearance to provide sufficient working space for the crane and scaffolding. The ceiling is 21 feet from the flower and the absolute minimum clearance required is 26 feet. The building proposed by the Fairview museum board provides adequate space and includes a feature whereby a set of chain blocks may be used for the assembly instead of a crane. This will make the procedure less hazardous to both the replica and the assembly crew.
