A reception will be held that evening from 7 t6 9. The public welcome. "Fields of Home" is inspired by the artists memory of farming in Idaho and West Texas. "As I look back, the days were filled with golden sunlight, good friends and neighbors, and good food. Ive had time to forget the aching back and the weariness that engulfed you when you had to irrigate all night, buck hay all day and top it all off with morning and evening chores. "When things get tough now, I still get a boost by remembering the times I used to snuggle down into the warm hay stack on cold winter evenings, and listen to the far off sounds of neighbors doing chores. "That grand feeling of solitude and oneness with nature still helps me center myself and put things in perspective. I guess thats why I paint the images I do. I want to share that healing sensation with others." Christensen was raised on a is Sanpete women testify to importance of mammograms MT. PLEASAN- T- For many women approaching middle age, the word mammograms lingers like an unchecked box on a o list. Grace Hawks of Ephraim, Marilyn Bean of Mt. Pleasant, and Paula Jorgenson of Moroni testify that mammograms belong at the top of the priority list, according to a news release from Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. Hawks, 64, went in for a mammogram at Sanpete Valley Hospital last February. A spot was detected near the back of her chest wall. Her physician later determined that it was not cancerto-d- ous. "I try to keep watch," Hawks said. She has made it a point to have an annual mammogram for several years now. She said she is glad the spot was detected and especially happy to learn it was benign. It only reinforces in her mind, though, the importance of that annual event. Bean, a nurse at Sanpete Valley Hospital, says she should have known better. Bean finally set foot in the mammography clinic when her decided to have one done and coaxed her along. She said when the were hung up, she was shocked. "I knew what I was looking at. I couldnt believe there was actually a lump in my breast." She said the lump was so deep that even her physician couldnt feel it. She decided to have the lump removed. Fortunately, it was benign. sister-in-la- w X-ra- ys Jorgenson, 43, has a somewhat different story. Last August, the Utah Power & Light worker found a lump in her left breast during a routine For several weeks she pondered about whether to call for a mammogram appointment. Her lump turned out to be cancerous. Last fall, she had a lumpectomy and portions of her lymph nodes were removed as well. is a young age to "Forty-thre- e get breast cancer," she said. "I hate to think what would have happened if it had gotten bigger and I hadnt noticed it." Since the surgery last fall, Jorgenson has undergone chemotherapy and recently began radiation treatment at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. All three say they are grateful to have the mammography capability at Sanpete Valley Hospital. They hope their experiences will motivate other women to have the screening done.
