Show - Page Two Sanpete Shopper - January Author earns national award 1990 17, WASHINGTON, -' Geographer and freelance photographer Gary B. Peterson and Humboldt State University geographer Lowell Ben Bennion have been awarded the 1989 John Brinckerhoff Jackson Prize for the best popular book about American human geography. The $1000 prize, given by the Association of American Geographers, was awarded to Peterson and Bennion for their book Sanpete Scenes: A Guide to Utahs Heart, published by BasinPlateau Press. The popular book about Sanpete County was published as part of Snow Colleges centennial celebration last year and contained more than 600 photographs, maps and graphs depicting the special qualities of Sanpete County. John Brinckerhofr Jackson, founder and former editor of Landscape magazine, has Written and lectured for more than 40 years about ordinary human landscapes. Harrington, Republican candidate for Third Congressional District met with party and elected officials and area residents at the Sanpete County Courthouse, Jan. 8. Harrington, a tax attorney residing in the Covered Bridge area of Spanish Fork Canyon, who practices in Provo, has had extensive experience with the IRS. After graduation from Brigham Young University with a degree in Political Science and Portuguese he earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Utah Law School. He worked as a trial attorney in the Refund Litigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service, in Washington, D.C. He took courses in taxation at George Washington University and then transferred to Los ANgeles where he practiced as a trial attorney before the United States Supreme Court. He opened a private practice in 1973 in Provo, and has subsequently been engaged by the private sector in the fight against the IRS and other bureaucracies of the federal and state governments.
