The city also agreed to a three-yea- r lighting contract with UP&L. Several citizens met with the council including Etta Irons, Shirley Draper, Tessie Cloward, Valeta Hardy, and Urwin Morley. Urw'in Morley, president of the Moroni Area Senior Citizens, offered to help put a sprinkling system in the lawn at City Hall-SeniCitizens Center. Morley asked the council to help with the cost of the system. The council decided to get prices before going along with Morley. They are trying to get a .75 percent rate reduction over the next eight years and is in a bargaining situation right now. If the grant is rejected the project will be abandoned. The council approved the removal of large trees north of the Dance Hall in the Lions Park. The delinquent accounts were discussed and will be handled in the usual manner. Councilman Ronald Giles presented a preliminary agenda for the 1989 Pioneer Days celebration. Giles also presented a proposal for two ball diamonds on the LDS Church property south of Uwn. It is proposed the LDS Church build the facilities and the city maintain them and they be used jointly. Approval was given for Councilman Giles to pursue the matter. Approval w'as also given to tear down the old grandstand in the further cast to make room for two full diamonds at the park. Councilwoman Kristy Jensen announced the Beautification Committee has been organized w ith Rela Rosenlund as chairman, Debbie Sherman and John Tucker as committee members. (801)595-868- are ns In other business, Mrs. Irons was the spokeswoman for a group of resident homemakers who wondered why city water bills were so high and wondered how they were computed. They were told that Moroni culinary water was indeed high. The cost is S12 for the first 1,000 gallons and S2.50 for each 1,000 gallons thereafter. It was explained that the high cost is due to the fact that water is pumped south of the city and must be pumped to the head house in the hills north of the city and then pumped down into the homes. Mayor Danny Dyches reported that two city residents had approached him about getting salvage rights to the city dump which has been closed down. The council gave permission with a time limit of June 1. Regarding the covering of the dump, the council decided to offer the bid to private contractors. Councilman Beardall reported that the city is now getting all of the vehicle tax and not just for new vehicles as was done in the past. The council voted to donate S500 to city ball teams after July 1 and approved a $50 donation to the Miss Moroni-Mis- s Utah Pageant. It was reported by the council that the Veterans of Foreign Wars have asked the city to fly flags on May 1, 1989, which has been designated, Loyalty Day. The council discussed the completion of ball park restrooms. The council discussed the city water lab and what could be done to upgrade it to Class I and decided they need an independent source to give information regarding this. ! Aaron Cloward, grandson of Ted and Betty Base, Mt. Pleasant, won second place, and Ben Eicher, son of Don and Kathleen Eicher, of Fairview, first place, in the eighth annual Telluride Region Electric Fair held recently in Richfield. Bothare sixth graders at North Sanpete Middle School. Cloward took second place and Eicher first place at the local Utah Power and Light Electric Science Fair held at the middle school.
