Show IMH .A ' . Drama team takes third ' f NEPHI The North Sanpete Drama Team took third place at the region drama meet held at Juab High on April 5. The following students qualified for state competition with superior ratings: Ron Litteral, Tim Evans, Paul Allred, Cindy Sidwell, Holly Soper, Sherene Beck, Steve Ruiz, Jason McColloch, Shannon Thomas, Annalyn Roberts, Darcee Benge, and Jenny Parnell. Qualifying for state with excellent ratings were Jason Keller, Robin i V -- : V Coltharp, Michelle Mindy x IV , jou&s scenes. Overall, Emery took first place and Richfield took second. 5 5. feilumrwlri 1 ' Former BYU quarterback Steve Young now of the San Francisco 49ers saw action on the Snows basketball court when he and some of his colleagues played the Snow faculty and staff in a benefit game Monday night. Youngs basketball handling was intersperced with autograph sessions for fans, young and old. The BYU football players defeated Snow 104 to 90 even with a healthy 10 point handicap graciously accepted by the faculty. Proceeds went to Snows football program. PLEASAN- T- The North Sanpete Chapter of the National Honor Society held its annual induction ceremony and installed its new presidency April 5. The new presidency, elected by members of the society include: Greg Christensen, president; Eric Canfield, vice president; Rebecca Seely, secretary; Jenny Parnell, treasurer, and Tim Evans, parliamentarian. New inductees include: Chris Peel, Robert Seely, Cindy Sidwell, Abby Shelley, Amberlee Strate, Jennifer Parnell, Dixie Bench, Andrea Jorgensen, Bradley Blackham, Marinda Hamilton, Tim Evans, Alissa Roberts, Melinda Walker, Tony Blackham, and Greg Bailey. ' . x f ; I JLUif Mark Bellini of the Baltimore Colts showed his versatility as an athlete when he and other members of the BYU football team participated in a benefit basketball game at Snow. The former BYU tight end executed well, both on and off court as fans clamored around him for autographs and photographs. Other BYU football celebrities included Sean Salisbury, David Miles, Richard Hobbs, Rodney Thomas, and Steve Young. Snow faculty included President Steve Bennion, Steve Gardner, Paul Tidwell, Larry Andersen, Keith Uperesa, E. J. Caffaro, Mike Black, A1 Green and Neal Cox. Corrections orientation workshops draw 300 people EPHRAI- M- The State Department of Corrections, in conjunction with Snow College, recently conducted two successful orientation workshops regarding future employment opportunities in the correctional facility that is soon to be built in Gunnison. About 60 participants in Ephraim and nearly 240 in Gunnison were given an overview of the Criminal Justice System in Utah and also a brief history and background of the field of Corrections. Information was also given as to the kinds of jobs that would be available, pay scales, benefits, and what would be required in applying for future positions. Department of Corrections of- ficials strongly encouraged attendees to be educational and career minded in their pursuit of a job with Educational Corrections. op- portunities would include a series of seven courses (24 credits total) in the field of Corrections that will be offered by Snow College during the next 18 months. Potential future employees were encouraged to take these courses and any other course that might lead to an associate or bachelors degree as a way of enhancing their chances in the job selection process. InThe. first course entitled, troduction to Criminal Justice is scheduled to begin in June. Depending on the numbers of students who ultimately enroll, several sections might be available. Courses will be primarily offered in the evenings and present plans are to offer them both in Gunnison and on the SnowCollege campus. Job applications will be taken by the Department of Corrections beginning May of 1989. Actual hiring will begin in October of 1989. Those interested were urged to attend the sign ups as no other registration would be held. On Sunday she enjoyed a birthday dinner with Jay and family in Fountain Green. Other family members also visited her during the week. M. .jrl r; A, ; ( Bryan Sorensen, son of Val and Sherie Sorensen, Spring City, won first place at the regional free style wrestling tournament and fourth in his division in state competition. He was also given the trophy for winning the most matches from his club during the year with 13 wins. He has attended state two years in a row. He is now eligible for the National Free style Tournament in Gillette, Wy. in June. Spring City CITY CLEAN UP WILL BE HELD: SATURDAY MAY 14th, 1988 ONE DAY ONLY From now until after the clean-u- p you may place any type of junk or debris on the streets. Garbage must be in bags. The City and National Guard will be around to assist in hauling the debris to the dump. Thereafter debris and junk placed on city streets will be removed. The cost of the removal will be charged to the property owner. We would also appreciate any volunteers with trucks to help in any way they can.
