Show Six Page The Pyramid April 1988 6, County baseball league to start Badgers rout Kittens; I split with Rebels EPHRAIM The Snow College Badger baseball squad appears to be ready for conference competition after sweeping a double-heade- r with the BYU J.V. Kittens last Friday in Ephraim and splitting a double-heade- r in a outing with the Dixie Rebels. The games on Friday against the Kittens saw Snow dominate as they 1 won the first game and the second game 12-Snow jumped out to a quick lead in the first game as they scored five first inning runs thanks to home runs by Brad Orr and Randy Nelson. The Badgers were able to score a sixth run in the second inning when Rob Beck hit a solo home run. BYU scored their lone run earlier in the 11-- 3. inning. Second baseman, Dave Berriocho, the first first Kitten pitch of the fourth inning out of the ball park to give Snow a 1 lead. The Badgers added two runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth, the last run came when Beck raced home after a passed ball, giving Snow the game on the ten-ru- n rule. Mike Peterson pitched an excellent game giving up only three hits and one run. Beck led the Badgers in hitting as he had two singles and a home run. In the night cap of the double header Snow scored one run in the first inning. In the top half of the second inning BYU scored three runs off Badger pitcher, Jim Kortright, to take a temporary lead. Snow came back in the bottom part of that inning with six runs to take the lead for good, thanks in part to four walks issued by BYU. The Badgers maintained their lead throughout the rest of the game as they scored one run in the third and fifth innings. The Badgers also scored three runs in the fourth inning that included a home run by Brandon Burt. High School winners included, Adam Dyches, first; Felicia Watson, second, and Shane Kjar, third, all Moroni. Middle school winners included, Jessica Roberts, Moroni; Staci Spanish class tours Mexico by Mindy Hamilton PLEASAN- T- Forty three students and four advisors from North Sanpete High School recently trip to participated in a five-da- y Mexico sponsored by the Spanish Club. The students departed from North Sanpete High School at 5 p.m. March 29 and arrived at Nogales, Mexico, the next day. From there they headed to Hermosillo where they spent two days and then departed for home, arriving April 2. Special events included stopping in Magdalena, Mexico, to see Father Kinos grave, a cultural exchange where the students were placed with a Spanish speaking youth, a special dinner including native food, dance and music, one day at Kino Bay, dining in Mexican restaurants, shopping in Nogales, and eating breakfast in Las Vegas, Nv. Participating students included: Joey Adams, Paul Allred, Dallen Anderson, Greg Bailey, Paul Bailey, Dawn Blackham, Tiffany Brotherson, Bry Butters, Jenny Christensen , Paula Christensen, Jason Coombs, Wendy Davis, Rochelle Estey, Mark Gardner, Dan Green, Mindy Hamilton, Bruce James, Taylor Johansen, Shane Holli Keisel, Teresa Jorgensen, Krebs, Shannon Leduc, Ken Miller, Matt Mitchell, John Parry, Chris MT. Peel, Jennifer Peterson, Diane Robertson, Susan Robertson, Joey Robertson, Tim Russen, Robert Seely, Janelle Sego, Abbey Shelley, Jade Shelley, Cindy Sidwell, Kelly Sidwell, Brett Smith, Melanie Smith, Tracy Sterner, Jamie Terry, Lisa Whitman, and advisors, Joe and Teddi Richardson, and Jim and Shanna Busby. All students had an enjoyable time and a great learning experience and said they were looking forward to going again next year. Tree, Mt. Sheldon Gilbert and Rickie Rigby, both Fairview, first and second; and Morica Johnson, Spring City and Janie Johnson, Fairview, tie for third; first grade. Jeanetta Watson, Spring City, first; Jana Nelson, Fairview, and Rebecca Hooper, Spring City, tie for Winners from the Middle and High Schools will compete with statewide entries on April 8 at the Salt Lake Metropolitan Science Fair in Salt 7-- Lake City. Honorable Mention projects from the sixth grades also compete. The State Science Fhir will be held at the Utah Technical Community College at 4600 South Redwood Road. The sixth, seventh, and eighth grades will display their projects in the Administration Building. High School projects will be displayed in the Student Center. Times will be 9 p.m. Thursday and all day Friday until 9 p.m. The public is invited. ' Dixie took control after that as they took advantage of five walks issued by Badger pitcher, Preston Lohmeyer, to score five early runs. Snow was unable to score another until Berriochoa took advantage of a throwing error by the Rebel catcher in the sixth inning for the games 5-- 3, 9-- 5. and Peggy Johnson and children spent a week in Overton and Mesquite, NV visiting with Dan and Madeleine Johnson who are spending the winter months there. The second game also saw Snow get off to a quick start as they scored one first inning run. The second inning saw the Badgers explode with four runs, including a Beck home run. The Badgers scored four more runs after that. Pitcher, Tim Olsen had a shut-ou- t going into the final inning, but Dixie exploded for five seventh inning runs, before Olsen was able to retire the side. Scott Jorgenson had an excellent game has he went 3 for 4 with one double and one RBI. Snow opens their conference season this Saturday at home against CEU in a double header.
