An accomplished musician, Ardith is well known in the Central Utah area for her fine musical talent and her willingness to share it. Before becoming a secretary, she taught private piano at Snow for 20 years, and has given private lessons in her home for over 25 years. Proficient on both piano and organ, Ardith has contributed to hundreds of programs throughout the years, accompanying individuals as well as choruses, church meetings and college productions. She accompanied the Messiah for many years and also musical groups at important Snow College functions such as Commencement programs. For ten years, Mrs. Peterson directed the L.D. Singers, a and popular L.D.S. Institute-basesinging group. At that time, she recalls, the group traveled all over the State of Utah and performed for many audiences. A daughter of Cecil and Maurine Stevens of Levan, Ardith graduated from Snow College and then married Wayne Peterson of Ephraim. The couple has lived in Ephraim ever since their marriage with the exception of the two years Wayne attended Utah Technical College at Provo. They have three children--Trent- , who is currently living in Ephraim; Tamra, married to Ed Reed and living in Mt. Pleasant, and Andria. who is married to Zane Munson and living in Ephraim. The Reeds are planning to move to Kingman. Ariz. in the near future, however. Wayne and Ardith also have one grandson. In addition to her service in the for 15 music area, Ardith taught the parade for years, said, "and I feel there is potential in every child and that they should all be given an opportunity to develop that potential. She is a firm believer that it is good lor every child to have some musical training, if for no other reason than for the discipline involved. can't give up on a child because you never know just when their interest and enthusiasm might lxsparked, she said. She indicated that she can accomplish much more with children if they have parental support in scheduling practice time, etc A student of Professor LaVar Jenson, Ardith recalls that her first piano teacher was Mrs. Norma Anderson of Levan and that she also studied with the late Diane Booth of Nephi. Her youngest child was three years old before she began her I lessons with Professor Jenson. admired Prof. Jenson's students so much and really wanted to play as well as they did," she said. Active in the LDS Church, Mrs. Peterson served as Relief Society President of Ephraim Fourth Ward, as choir director, ward organist and music chairman, and as accompanist for the Stake Choir for 20 years. Before coming to Snow, Ardith taught for several years at Wasatch Academy, was a secretary at the Ephraim Elementary and Junior High School, and also did secretarial work for Beneficial Life and for Judge Merrill Hermansen in the Juvenile Court. In recognition of her outstanding service, Mrs. Peterson received the annual Middle School Christmas Candle in 1970. Mrs. Peterson has been influential in getting manv a voung musician started, and her positive philosophy has undoubtedly had a great deal to do with it.
