Show Up 21.8 percent continues Sanpete increase m new constriction - MT. PLEASANT-Eve- n though Sanpete County felt the effects of the economy on construction last year, a Manti guitar and vocal ensemble will provide the main entertainment for the annual Pioneer Day and Homecom1 ing Celebration Saturday afternoon starting at p.m. in the Mt. Pleasant LDS Stake Center. The county issued permits for 125 new building permits for new residences in 1980. Building In November construction began on a new supermarket to be located on Mt. Pleasants southside. The value of the market which is owned by Deon Dove of Mapeton is $1,250,000. Across the street west of the new store, the National Guard Armory is also well under construction although not listed in last year's building construction as the permit was obtained in 1979 and was credited that year. Far West Bank of Provo recently opened a new bank in Fairview bringing banking services to that community for the first time since 1934. Plans are to expand and build a companion facility in Mt. Pleasant. The Department of Transportation is building a new maintenance road shed in Gunnison. PLEASANT-Ove- r 350 residents and former residents are expected to be on hand Saturday to celebrate the 122nd anniversary of the founding of the community Saturday, March 21. A luncheon will be served at noon followed by the program at 1 p.m. Festivities will take place in the Mt. Pleasant LDS Stake Center at 300 South State. Sponsored annually by the Mt. Pleasant Pioneer Historical Association, members say the public is invited to the program which will feature . J.B.s Country Sunshine, a vocal group from Manti. The group is a family affair headed by Jerry Bradley and starring members of the Bradley family. Robert Nielson, Fairview, will perform a comedy act and dance numbers will be presented by a group of young people. Visiting will begin at 11 a.m. and tickets for the box lunch which will include Kentucky fried chicken will be available at the door..Rex Hafen, Harold P. Hansen and vice Olive Pritchett, president, president and secretary of the Historical Association will serve as general chairmen of the celebration. They will be assisted by other members who will serve in various capacities. Included are Talula Nelson, Johannah Hafen, Alice Hafen, Mary Cloward, Minnie Rutishauser, Lguise Johansen, Esther Christensen, L.'Udell Christensen, Bert Ruesch, Eldon Hughes and Chesley P. Christensen. Bernice Coates and Evelyn Johansen of the food who have been committee for many years will be assisted by a group of loyal ladies who not only serve in the kitchen but will also furnish part of the lunch. Minnie Rutishauser and Johannah Hafen will be in charge of the reception. They will be assisted by members of the Lalcos Club who will all be dressed in pioneer attire when they greet guests at the front door. Men and ladies attending who are 80 years of age or older will be especially honored by being special guests and each will be given a flower. The eldest lady attending will be given a corsage and the eldest man will be presented with a boutonniere. Green PTA elects new officers ' Heading a Community Progress Survey in Moroni are Chairwoman Arlene Syme; and Vice chairmen, Mary Kay Christensen and DaVid Livingston. The e survey will be conducted on Monday March 30 and is designed to give citv officials a guide in developing and improving the community. city-wid- a Community Progress survey Monday, March 30, from 7 to 10 p.m. A survey sheet will be distributed to every home in the city and will be picked up again that same evening. Association members, say they are hoping for better weather than when the original group of pioneers came in 1859. This humble group left Fort Ephraim on March 16 and it took them until March 21 to circle their wagons on the site where the fort was to be built as they were snowed in for several days west of the Sanpitch River. City Uncertainty prevails over UMW contract d Miner Workers from Sanpete County along with 150,000 from the rest of the nation are unsure of whether they will be on strike or working following the March 27 termination date for negotiation of a new contract according to a local mine offical. Mike Dalpiaz, Vice President of District 22 UMW, said Wednesday morning that as it now stands bargaining has broken off, but miners will continue to work subject to notice from the national organization. Union and coal company leaders PRICE-Unite- have been negotiating in Washington DC on a new three-yea- r contract, but talks broke off early this week with no new bargaining sessions announced. Among the differences reported were the question of working on Sundays and aspects of the miners' pension plan. Three years ago UMW miners were strike for 111 days when negotiations failed between the union and mine Bituminous Coal Operators.
