Show PETTIT MAKES flAKES N lof REPORT kv T ON LOCAL LUCAL x 1 I COAL MINES S J E pettit state coal mine inspector on last monday submitted his quarterly report ending march to governor william spry during the time he visited the utah fuel mines at sunnyside Sunny side castle gate clear creek and winter quarters the weber coal com banys mines at coalville Co alville the union fuel mines at grass creek and at scofield and the independent coal and coke mines at kenil kenilworth oreb and generally 3 speaking peaking found them all in good condition at kenilworth the miners were taking into their working places full boxes of giant caps containing s n hundred caps for blasting purposes using them as needed which is in conflict with paragraph 10 of sec 1618 revised statutes to the effect that gunpowder or any other explosive shall not bo be stored in a mine this was remedied however upon the suggestion of C H stevenson local superintendent that all the caps needed for blasting be distributed to the miners by the of cach shift upon their inspection of the shot holes no more caps to be given out than there are shot holes no miners will be allowed to have any caps in the mine beyond those delivered by the shot in no 4 mine at sunnyside Sunn Sunny side of the utah fuel company pettit found that a few of the rooms needed more water the return airway tunnel of the castle gate mine was giving off of considerable explosive gas the scales in the weber coal mine at Co alville were not weighing exactly true on account of the dripping water from mine mine cars and he urges that the working places drawing pillars on the fifth level be well watered at least once a week i the ventilation of the third east level in the union fuel mine at grass q creek was not quite as good as a it might be in no 2 mine of the union pacific coal company at scofield some of the miner had been using coal slack to tamp their shots with in spite of the fact that the company had furnished them with plenty of earth for tamping purposes ses generally ly speaking though pettit sap the mines of the the state are in excellent cond condition itlen |
