Arrows of Light awarded KAYSVILLE The Arrow of Light award is the highest award that a Cub Scout can achieve and is equivalent to the Eagle Scout award in the Boy Scout Program. It is the only Cub Scout badge that can be worn on the Boy Scout During an award ceremony on Oct. 28 the following six Webelos Scouts received their Arrow of Light award: son Dickson, son of Lee and Patty Dickson, Ryan Harris, son of Jed and Rika Harris, Sean Nelson, son Brandon Jones, son of Mike and Nanette Jones, Bradley Gunderson, son of Anne Gunderson, Car-- Shaw. of Paul and Kathy Nelson and Brian Shaw, son of Ken and Joy All of these boys are members of Cub Scout Pack 311 in Kaysville. Stake sets Yule musical The Layton Utah LAYTON LDS Stake will present a musical Christmas drama entitled And His Name Shall Be Called Wonderful on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Gordon Avenue Stake Center. This production, written by Julie M. Loveridge and published by the Activities Committee of the LDS Church is excellent Christmas entertainment for the entire family. Everyone is invited to attend the performances. There is no admission charge. Gayle Pitkin is the activity specialist in charge of the musical drama. It is being directed by Carolyn Olsen. The play features an adult choir directed by Fran Rhodes and accompanied by Mary Jean Bank- - head. A childrens choir will also perform. This is directed by Faline Stocking Staffer. Layton seniors schedule dance BRIAN HOLBROOK Three area students feted Three area students--Shu-Min- g Chang and Brian Holbrook of Clearfield High School and Cora Rhodes of Layton High School-we- re among six high school students who received honors recently at the annual Intermountain High Schools Natural and Mathematical Sciences Conference at Brigham Young University. Conference Director H. Kimball Hansen presented plaques to the six outstanding students. Twenty-thre- e students were nominated for the awards by their teachers based on achievement and scholarship in science and mathematics. A panel ofBYU professors judged the competition. Three plaques for outstanding teaching were given by the three teacher organizations co- sponsoring the conference. More than 700 students attended the conference and took four classes dealing with such topics as dinosaurs, career opportunities, genes, the brain, lighting, nuclear power, computers, drugs and testing, space exploration, star wars, hearing, black holes and lasers. Keynote speaker was Alan C. and developer Ashton, of WordPerfect, now the nations computer software for word processing. He explained how the system is applicable to helping students become better writers, spellers and grammarians as they take a variety of classes in high school and college. The conference was sponsored by the Utah Office of Education, the Utah Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Utah Science Teachers Association, Utah Council for Computers in Education, and the BYU College of Biology and Agriculture and the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. He also is a strong contender for the Sterling Scholar award in science. Rhodes is president of the Chemistry Club, was the top student in the advanced placement chemistry class and was among the top students in mathematics. Her major interest is chemistry and its application to medical problems such as cancer. She has developed and presented science demonstrations for elementary students during the past two years.
