Show JUNE 10, 1986 L, wisdom and maturity united with energy and unjadcd enthusiasm. Ideally, this would be the case, and many times it is. I have discovered, however, that this happy marriage between age and wisdom does not always occur. Just as we may find the C student owning the business while employing the "A and B students, so we sometimes see youth managing older employees, often with greater finesse than irt reverse circumstances. One situation of which Im aware, pairs youthful management with a staff which is more mature as to age and experience. Some of the older employees chaff at the yoke of a young boss who makes final decisions, simply because they feel that younger cannot possibly be better, or even as good. The dictionary defines wisdom as knowledge and good judgIt says nothing about age, nor ment based on experience. in the experience. Some of the time of provides for a length come from those younger. Even has heard wisdom Ive greatest children, with their unspoiled innocence, are at times, wiser than those well ahead of them in years. Conversely, Ive witnessed foolish action from those whose age would suggest otherwise. Many who have gained years have not necessarily attained maturity from their lifes experiences. Instead of growing, learning, and building internal strength and security from the aging process, they have merely maintained the emotional maturity of a younger age. As their lack becomes apparent, they try to cover their stunted growth, rather than to reassume the painful process involved in maturing. Shades Of Kelley Greene doesnt always Age equate maturity You cant put an old head on young shoulders, my mother always said with a sigh as she contemplated what she considered foolish behavior on the part of her offspring. The tendency to equate age with wisdom is similar to equating "A grades with superior intellect. That may in fact be the case. We should hope so. But then again, it may not be. It is impossible to measure all areas of the human experience with a grading system. As one educator recently put it to a group of graduating You may find A scholars working for a B students: in a company owned by a C student. manager So it is when one tries to assign wisdom to physical maturity. With the aging process and its resultant lifes experiences, one hopes for a stable mental maturity in the bargain. The sight of a gray head bent in conversation alongside the unlined face of a youth, invokes confidence that here is the best of both worlds -- When I was a child, my favorite person was my grandmother, whom I supposed could answer every question of my young mind. She was wise in supplying answers simple enough for the understanding of my years. As I grew, she enlarged our conversations to allow expansion of my knowledge.
