But he's a popular his teachers say he's definitely a slow-movin- d lad-a- kid for the future. - w oi king conditions may be jeopardized. If she doesn't report it, the SALT LAKE CITY A University of Utah student from Fruit Heights recently won "Best Television Documentary" in a multistate competition sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists. W F.NDY harassment will continue. "We found a lady who was willing to talk on camera about her expel iences with sexual harassment and that made the piece," says Bingham. "The viewer can't listen to her without feeling soiry for her or anyone in the same situation." Bingham, 22. a 1982 graduate of Viewmont High School, took first among college students in the mountain region for "A Woman's Place," a report on sexual harassment in the work place. The report now goes on to national competition. Annette Mecham, another U of U student, was reporter for the story and shared the prize with Bingham. SHE IS the daughter of Harvey and I.ynette Stackhous of Fruit Heights. Silver Age Center happenings 10-1- Hero is also fun. If a student enters proper phonetic commands in the computer. If a student programs Hero properly, the robot will amble down the aisle, raise its metal arm and grasp a pencil from a desk. it HERO THE ROBOT stalled four Apple computers attached to the State system. It was a slow process and we had to almost beat students into enrolling into computer classes." But by the time Thacker arrived back to teach at his alma mater, the interest in computers had in- creased dramatically. Today Bountiful High has some 125 computer terminals. many of them purchased through special A.F. funding. and boasts of one of the highest ratios in the state. computer-pupi- l OF COURSE, all high schools have some computers. But only Bountiful has a robot. "It's a logical extension of the computer." says Thacker, who along with Siddoway. is preparing presentation to Davis District officials on the use of robotics in the classroom. a "SOME PEOPLE may see this as a waste of money." says Siddoway. "but the more these people understand the future, then the more they'll accept it . Our students live in a highly competitive society and we owe it to them to offer skills so they can compete." "Exactly." says Thacker. We live in a world in which a motorist will soon instruct his automobile to drive him from Point A to Point B. And the automobile will answer back. How fast"."
