Show Page Three Why I Love Show Off My Pet Maybe Teddy or Queenie dont mind, all the time, and maybe mom has to remind you to feed that family pet, but youd sure hate to have to give him)her up, wouldn't you? and really do love If youre a youngster between that dog, cat, or other family pet that hangs around your house, then tell the world about it. The Davis County Fair under is sponsoring a Why I Love My Pet Contest auspices of the county Animal Services Department. Entrants are asked to submit an essay of 100 words or less telling why you love your pet. It should be submitted, alonq with a photograph, by Thursday, at 5 p.m. to DeAnn at Davis County Animal Control in Fruit Heights. Entries will be judged on: expression in the essay; of the pet as shown in photo; performance in an interview of the 10 finalists. If you win, youll be photographed, along with that winning pet, and an 1 1 by 14 portrait made for display in the new Animal Control Shelter that should open this fall. Itll remain there for one year along with a copy of your winning essay. Nows the chance for Davis Countys male population to show their spouses and girlfriends that they can cook that meat to perfection just as well or even better-th- an their female contemporaries. The Davis County Fair is sponsoring, in conjunction with the Farm Bureau, the second annual Cookout King Contest Saturday, Aug. 10 as part of the fair that runs Aug. Judging will take place at 5 p.m. on the west side of the football field, explains Contest Chairperson Suzanne Hess. It's open to any Davis County male, and above. Entries must compete in one of five meat categories: Beef, Lamb, Pork, Poultry (including Turkey), Dutch Oven. Contestants must furnish their own equipment and meat for the preparation of their entry. Equipment includes barbecue grill or dutch oven, plates, accessories and anything called for in the recipe. Other requirements: the contestant must cook the meat completely at the Fair; he must do his own work although he can have help in unloading and setting up equipment; contestants must use a meat cut from one of the four meats in the Dutch Oven category. is required by Aug. 9, one day before the contest.
