Perhaps Davis High wouldnt mind if the hoopla continued just a little longer because it's been a few seasons since theyve been able to show-of- f a couple of bonafide major college football prospects. But actually, Mr. (Richard) Stevenson is probably glad that Clawson and Pearson are finally back in class and not on a University of Utah skiing trip, one of the many little enticements to bring kids the Ute's way. He always acted as if he had a genuine concern for us, even if we didn't decide to go with Utah. Of course these visits are restricted to 48 hours by the NCAA so a ton would take place in just a short period of time. There were 12 other high sought after recruits that went around with Pearson and Clawson, some out of staters and others from within Utah. The first recruiting trip was interesting, said Pearson. But the rest of them were taken in perspective. THE BIG question is, with Utah and BYU as the two powerhouses of football in Utah, are there any regrets? For Pearson it was cut and dried. Absolutely not. BYU was a second choice from the first and I'm glad I'm going to be a Ute. Its not a new story to relate either of these kids excitement inside, the excitement of major college football. Probably the hardest for either of them right now is that they have no competitive sport to compete in right now, something to let out all the excess energy in. Besides a little church basketball, some running and an hour a day of pushing up iron, they have nothing to energize in except on Friday nights when they get on the opposition or a referee at basketball games. BUT HOW 'bout this college recruiting stuff? Its an experience only a few ever go through. From the very beginning, almost, it was the U. of U. who showed the greatest amount of interest in Clawson and Pearson.
