SYPHUS was bom April I , Hot Springs, Ida., a daughter of Leonard J. and Joffre Ollivier Stephenson. On July 31, 1959 she married Bernie D. Yoachum, in Lava Hot Springs, Ida. They were later divorced. She married Ervin H. Rasmussen Feb. 4, 1973 in Elko, Nev.; they were later divorced. She married Leo T. Syphur on May 15, 1977 in Clearfield. 1935 in Lava ALSO surviving are her grandpa- rents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard J. Stephenson of Syracuse and Bernard Yoachum, of Bozeman, FIREMAN HONORED Mont. The funeral services were conducted by Bishop Don Dial of the Clearfield 3rd Ward. Norman Gardner was honored at the recent Farmington City Council meeting for his dedication as a volunteer fireman for the city during the past 30 years. He was presented a plaque by Mayor Merrill Petty. Sparks from the fire were blown as far west as the present Frontage Road, he remembers, it was a most difficult fire to control. This incident was at the foot of Glover Lane. ANOTHER big fire was the Miller Floral blaze which was also difficult to control, and Norman remembers it was close to his home so he was really relieved when the fire was out. Norman Gardner has now retired and has manz memories of his fire fighting days in the Farmington fire department and his association with so many great firemen who worked with him over the years. THESE volunteer firemen are all to be commended for their many years of service in their communities. kj Farmington Decides To Fund Part-tim- e Ambulance Service for Stephanie PALLBEARERS Fires during heavy fog are always difficult, especially at night. The fires on the mountains are also sometimes difficult, sometimes requiring the firemen to return after they thought it was out. NORMAN also remembers an old home on 600 North which had several false ceilings. In midwinter the water sometimes froze. He went into this home with a gas mask to try to find the source of the blaze but it was quite difficult, but they finally had it under control. Another outstanding time was when hunters on their way to Wyoming for the elk hunt, had a fire in their trailer and their Bronco. Single-to- THE COUNCIL adopted an ordinance setting the meeting schedule for 1985. The meetings will continue to be held the first and third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m., except when too near holidays. In July, the 10th and 17th and in December, the 4th and 11th. Ordinance 84-2- 3 was adopted, making unlawful, the violation of rules of the Central Davis Sewer District, which some citizens have violated. COUNCILMAN Ungerman reported on several letters he had re- ceived. Councilman Tennant reviewed the progress of the Mission State- ment. RECOMMENDATIONS were made for the HUD allocation for 1985. Mayor Petty explained what might be used for the 1985 allocations. Max Forbush, city manager, will serve on the committee to make recommendations for the HUD funds. There were contract payments for the Woodridge subdivision bond reduction requests. For the twin home subdivision for $12,673and $2366, both were approved. THERE WAS a request for payment of $16,363.95 for extra work on a water line, to Bolinder Construction and the council approved payment. There was a request for the release of $3,970 in the Somerset homes subdivision. Councilman Peterson felt this matter needed to be checked out before payment was made. The council agreed on the payment after the matter was checked and clarified. A MOTION was made and approved to defend and indemnify Mayor Petty, in a lawsuit which has been filed by a group of North Davis citizens against the committee considering the Burn Plant in North Davis. The council approved the Bard sublease of the Utah Power and Light right of way for 1985. COUNCILMAN White reported on his study of the Farmington Fire Department. Mr. White recommended the certain duties and daily jobs out lined for firemen, including certain safety rules. THE COUNCIL approved a short range plan to spend approxifire mately $9,000 to fund part-tim- e and ambulance coverage on Tuesday through Saturday, during day time hours. In the past, ambulance and fire coverage by volunteers has been very difficult because of those on normal working hours. The council also approved increasing the volunteer fire department by three, to allow for the division of 8 men fire companies. Hereafter, only a company will be called out on first response, rather than the entire department. 3-- COUNCILMAN White reported on recommendations outlined for the Police Department. He also reported on what could be done to reimburse reserve officers for their training. Councilman Tennant made the motion to accept the report and the council approved.
