Show NEW THES REH strong organization of salt lake city men back of project WATER STOCK NOW HIGHER IN I 1 HE SPRING ht ve just been completed by which the price river irrigation company goes into entirely new hands severing it from the irrigated lands company which had previously handled the proposition says the deseret news nes of yesterday the principal owners will now be the austin brothers ira D wines thomas R cutler albert amith utah livestock company al rockhill richard jones aston jenkins and a number of other representative senta tive men at a stockholders meeting melting held on january the following officers were ere elected thomas H 11 austin president ira D wines vice president and george A smith secretary and treasurer these together with edward jenkins thomas R cutler mark austin and albert smith form the board of directors john wheelon hydraulic engineer of the utah idaho sugar company is the consulting engineer and will have entire charge of the engineering work of both the mammoth reservoir and the canal system the new board of directors felt that land owners under the system without water should have the opportunity pon port unity to secure it at a low figure and notwithstanding the water is s worth considerable more all land owners who will avail ther nelves of the opportunity to purchase the water on a cash b biaca s on or before march 1 1911 will b bp riven it at thirty dollars per acre af after ter march 1 1911 prices will be materially increased on what water is left and will also be put on other lands farther down the valley on which an option has already been secured john wheelon and george austin lately visited the mammoth reservoir where the waters are stored for this system they found that there is an admirable water ater shed and the dam that has been constructed ted is a splendid piece of engineering work according to the engineers report when the dam shall have been com committed pItted it will store sufficient clent waters to take care of twenty thousand acres of land mark austin assistant general manager of the utah idaho sugars sugar company for idaho has been over the lands under this system a num ber of times and reports that the soils are well adapted to al all the ordinary farm vegetation including the sugar beets it has been beem demonstrated that the lands under this system have fine soils for horticulture ti and already a god deal of land has been prepared for the planting of a li great many or orchards chardi as soon as spring opens up last year the grand junction sugar factory raised a number of acres of beets in this valley and ship pod them to grand junction their agricultural superintendent states that the beets e edid results M OL both as to sugar contents and yield per acre and it is the intention of the utah idaho sugar company to secure what acreage they can in this vicinity for the coming u beason and ship the beets to the achi sugar factory |
