american institute of mining engineers charter member of the american metallurgical society member of the colorado society a member of the american scan mining congress and also of the utah society of in inn a social way ay he was a member of the alta university and commercial clubs of salt lake city and the deseret athletic club also of that city at the time of hia his death he was consulting regarded as one of the most able officials connected with this industry he ile was devoted to the study of all the ances and added to the technical ech education acquired at edinburgh a most thorough and practical training I 1 in the mountains of utah colorado and adjoining states his ilis thirst for geological information a insatiable and in its pursuit he ed practically all of the mountains and traversed thousands jf miles through desert wastes in the study of formations the collection of fossils and the compilation of topographical and other information at the time of his death there was being prepared under his direction a map of utah embodying the results of many years of field work per performed formed by him and this map if carried to completion would constitute a splendid monument to his memory and alfrord ord an everlasting evidence of taa zeal and sacrifice which he h e devoted for the general public benefit one 0 of f the beat best collections 3 of fossils owned by
