Pleasant Pyramid - December 22, Former Sanpete man notes 100th birthday Page Eight Christian Peter (Pete) Hansen, a formed Sanpete County resident will celebrate his 100th birthday today, December 15. Mr. Hansen, who now lives in Salt Lake City, was born on Dec. 15, 1877 in Aarhus, Denmark to Johanna Fredericka Christiansen and Jens P. Hansen. Traveling alone as a young lad, he came to America and settled in Sanpete County. He made his home Mt. Pleasant and Fiddlers Green. The first money he earned here was twelve dollars for grubbing out sage brush. He also completed his schooling in Sanpete and has become a learned man. He worked as a barber in 1905 until 1907, and then went to work for the Utah Power and Traction cars), as a motorman. Co. (Trolley Prominent in political circles he began his career as justice of the peace, and was later elected to the State Legislature. He filled two terms as President of the SLC Federation of Labor and two terms as President of the State Federation of Labor. Known as a progressive labor leader, associates say he has solved many of their difficulties in a quiet and practical way during his administration. Mr. Hansen is an elder in the LDS Church. He is also affiliated with the 1977 President's Corner A' Christian Peter Hansen Modern Woodmen of America and the Loyal Order of Moose. He and his wife Dagmar Neilsen, also a native of Denmark, had five children, raised four of them to maturity, including a set of identical twins. He also raised a grandson after the death of his oldest daughter. Mr. Hansen has outlived four wives. He is still active, alert. When asked about his longevity he says, More people would live longer if they would throw all the pills in the world in the ocean. Then he remarked "But, it would kill all the fish.
