The commencement activities are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. in the Mt. Pleasant Utah Stake House. Volume MT. The students have chosen a patriotic theme 200 Years of Progress for program numbers which will include talks and numbers centered around our nations history. Participants on the program will be students who have musical achieved high scholastic honors during their school years. The invocation will be given by Bruce Jensen with the welcoming address by Kurt Despain, Class President. Speakers will be Harry Cunningham, Scott Mower, Scott Rosenlof, John Rigby, Chad Blackham, Ellen Maureen Bailey, Aaeard, Teresa Christensen, Aler.e Mcfarlane and Carolyn Crisp. Rusty Bench will present a vocal solo and musical readings will be given by Cindy Cook and Don Shelley. A vocal ensemble will sing folk songs relating to early America and the class will sing Dear Land of Home. The benediction will be given by Shirlene Dovey. Dr. Bagley new manager of Moroni Turkey Hatchery Not presently up to full Dr. Royal Bagley of Moroni has been named manager of the Moroni Turkey Hatchery and Farms filling the position left vacant by the death of Clifford Blackham last year. hatchery is capable of handling 600,000 eggs a week. During the present busy season the hatchery will average 150,000 to 250,000 eggs per week. An average of 50 to 65 percent of the eggs coming into the incubators will hatch during the season. production, Dr. Bagley who has been with the Moroni Co-osince 1961 as a veterinarian brings a wealth of training and experience to the position he has held since Jan. A native of Moroni, Dr. Bagley received his early training in Moroni schools and trained in medical technology while in the Navy. He graduated from Snow College in 1943 and received his BS and MS degrees from Utah State University. High school announces election results for council North Sanpete High School has announced the results of student body elections and appointed offices who will make up the student council next year. Orton Fort The most popular turkey specified by Sanpete growers is the Broad White which will finish in about 20 weeks and dress out at about 20 pounds. Also popular is the fryer-roastwhich finishes out at weeks at 8 pounds dressed weight. Also grown are heavy toms that will dress out at about 30 pounds in 27 weeks. The heavy er 4 7-- toms are used mainly for Collins. Dr. Bagley returned to USU where he spent three years on the staff teaching and doing research and diagnostic work in the poultry field. He worked for Intermountain Farmers from 1956 until he came back to Moroni in 1961. Dr. Bagley said many of the disease problems facing turkey growers have not been solved yet, however, he stated modern technology and diagnostic testing has eliminated many problems that were prevelent several years ago. He said some growers have some genetic problems and work and research is being done to solve these problems. In his new job, Dr. Bagley, the commercial institutions using large amounts of turkey. The Feed Company offers early growers a better price on birds purchased early in Jan. For example poults purchased now at $1.09 each could be purchased in Jan. for 67 cents. This is done to insure a more even distribution of the turkeys. The lower price encourages the grower who will face higher costs in other areas, such as additional feed, fuel costs etc., to buy his birds early. Dr. Bagley said the grower also has to determine which type of bird will suit his indivual operation. It is Dr. Bagleys responsilibity to work with growers and assist them with their planning. Dr. Bagley said the Moroni Processing Plant is expecting to process about two million turkeys this season. The past couple years have not been easy for the industry and attitude is the general caution, he explained. Heif that pointed out, however, the economy continues to improve, this year should at least be profitable. Dr. Bagley and his wife, Iris are the parents of seven children. They also have a Lamanite boy, Bobby Bowman living with them. Their children include, Roger, at Fort Carson; Laurie Blackham, Moroni, Bruce living in Ephraim; Hanice Nelson, Moroni, Beth June of Provo; Lynn and Darrell both Moroni. They also have six grandchildren. Dr. Bagley is enthusiastically meeting the challenge of a career in the turkey industry that began as a young boy working with his uncle on his farm in Moroni. Planning is done early with the grower deciding the date he wants his poults delivered. Dr. Bagley stated the breeder hens are located on farms in Gunnison, Sterling and and in Washington County. In addition, the hatchery also purchases eggs from other places. The eggs are delivered to the Moroni hatchery where they are' kept in incubators for 28 days. While in the hatchery the eggs are candled to weed out any unfertile eggs.
