Show October 18, 1973 Viewpoint Doctor in the Kitchen by David Rosier In a single room there can be a dancer, a bust, a painting, a book and music playing. These things represent a great variety of performed activity. But each years and still use space. Paintings, houses, gowns, chairs exist within an area. Once its existence. Art is made for one to feel through his senses something outside himself that is richer than that which is within his being. But to feel it, or to gain it, he must invest either space from his physical world or time from his own existence. Pleasant Pyramid Dear Sirs: It was gratifying to read the article on Land Control in our last issue of the Pyramid. I believe the people of Sanpete County as well as all other citizens of the United States would be fortunate to have the opportunity to read the truth and the things so important to us in these days of so many evils imposed upon us. Going hunting? Check rules, Again I want to thank you and commend you for speaking out and telling it as it is. Respectfully, Alfred Mapes A male deer rarely places his hind foot precisely in the print made by a forefoot. MAZE new regulations Hunters planning to participate in any of Utahs 1973 hunting seasons should be reading their proclamations in detail beforehand. They will find several new regulations. The regulations involve legal firearms, trespass, aircraft use in hunting activities and transporting of big game animals. They are outlined in the deer proclamation under Section G. General Regulations for Taking Deer, items 7, 10, 16 and 22. Proclamations are available at of Wildlife Division all Resources offices, from conservation officers and license agents. Handguns will be legal to take deer this year for the first time. Other forms of big game may not be taken with handguns. Legal handguns are restricted to .357 magnum, .44 magnum, .454 magnum or their equivalent. Muzzle loading rifles used to hunt big game must shoot balls at least .430 inches in diameter. aircraft and helicopters may not be used to locate wildlife or transport hunters, hunting equipment or wildlife, except when such persons or cargo are picked up and unloaded at established airports. This precludes the use of aircraft in the pursuit of big game or transporting the hunter directly from the airport to the hunting area. Americas sportsmen have And put their money where there mouth is when it come to paying for conservation and wildlife management. National Hunting and Fishing Day, Saturday, September 22, has been set aside to thank hunters and fishermen for their role in guarding the nations natural resources. Sportsman financing refuges, FOOD FADDISM my opinion, food faddism flourishes because it offers responses to some of our most deep In seated yearnings yearnings such as wanting to believe in miracles, and. certainly, the desire that everyone has to win over any fears he might face. Now what better way could one ask for to meet these needs than to believe that certain foods are miracle foods and that through them we will have super health, or freedom from ill health? Besides. the lure of food eults is not new. It is part of our heritage. In America, in particular, the snake oil salesman enjoys an honored place in our history, in our respect for gumption and enterprise. So why not macrobiotic diets? Nutrition, A Young Science Nutrition, which is a relatively young science, is particularly susceptible to distortion, fads and cults. We teach that proper nutrition is associated with health and poor nutrition with disease. The public response to "health foods" stems from this concept. Does it matter? Are enough people involved in food faddism for physicians like me to worry sportsmen-finance- produce enough food for this country by such methods and the fact that such foods are not suto those perior nutritionally raised by the more traditional methods of agriculture in which chemical fertilizers are used. Since all of us and everything about us arc part of nature, what can there be that is unnatural? To me, anything that is" is natural. And as for plant growing, plants use only inorganic not organic forms of plant food, They utilize nitrates, potassium, iron and phosphates as determined by the plant s heredity If the soil is deficient in certain nutrients you will get less crop but the quality of the plants you get will not be affected. A plant so deficient in its own needs would simply wither, be obviously stunted, or die and it would never reach the market as food. about'1 The answer is "yes." Estimates of the market for fad foods run as high as $1 billion by 1975. And an indication that "health food" items have really caught on is obvious when major food chains add "natural" food sections to their stores. My argument, for example, with "organic foods is not so much with the items themselves except that they are unnecessarily expensive. My concern is that we could in no wav I "naobject, then, to tural foods because they are sold and consumed under false premises premises that help to block the nutrition education ettorts in this country to help our people know best how to choose their food wisely. Next week we'll talk more about this. It is, of course, the very healthy interest Americans have in nutrition that has allowed food faddism to grow along with a greater public awareness of the importance of nutrition. When people thirst for knowledge (and especially if there are not answers for all the questions), misinformation can flourish along with the sources of accuracy. And who among us might not fit into one of the categories of people who seem motivated toward special foods? Maybe colton was right, NOT. Prior to the series of storms experienced lately, bird numbers appeared to be substantial. We generally have a big build up of birds before the season, Regenthal said, and the birds begin migrating. Much is dependent upon weather conditions. Storms bring some birds in and send others out of the area, and Saturdays outlook is largely dependent upon weather over the next few days. Hursh, M.D. Consultant, National Dairy Council one is art. Obviously art can result from several disciplines. Something that is so broad in concept must be general in definition. Art is the organization of a substance in time or space in a way that is pleasing to the senses. Some art exists only in time. It has a beginning and an end. At the end it is in the past and can only be known again by investing more time in another performance. Music is one art that can exist only in time. Each musical note has a beginning and an end; each composition has a final chord. Then it is over and cannot be reached by any of the senses. It must be given time to be played again to be felt again by the senses. Drama and dance are two other arts that exist in time. Although both dancers and actors are physical, their art is held within a given period of time. Dance exists while the dancers perform, and drama exists while the actors play. Literature is also an art bound by time. Reading begins and ends at points in time. Sculpture, painting and design architecture, costume, furniture are arts that exist in space.
