Show Looking Ahead Dr. George S. Benson President NATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAM eaixyrkansa COMMUNIST FOOTPRINTS When the National Broa- dcasting Company recently tNBC-TV- ) presented documentary the "American Communism Today, Gus Hall, General Secretary of the Communist Party USA, was interviewed by Frank McGhee of NBCs TODAY program. Hall was asked whether the Communists would need to resort to violence to take over the United States. Hall said: There is a strong possibility that violence will be necessary. Frank McGhee reminded his listeners that Hall's Communist Party USA is "cemented to the Soviet Union. In fact the NBC documentary was one of the most objective jobs the network Vieivpoint BY DAVID ROSIER In a time one person can feel the entire range of emotions days from uncontainable joy to unbearable grief. He can love himself immensely and hate himself viciously. He can experience pleasure and pain. Through every gamut of sensations and each second of living one simple but profound fact governs him: he alone must live through every moment of his existence. There is nothing simpler to understand. But there is nothing more awesome in scope. The same living being must live through failing and succeeding, pain and pleasure, sorrow and joy, regret and satisfaction, the mundance and exciting. He must be conscious for planning his future just as he must be conscious for remembering his past. He cannot escape the sadness memory may bring no more than he can think only of the happiness it may bring. Constant living does not focus on this second alone, but rather includes simultaneously the past, and the present and the future. Because each person is trapped within himself and is both subject and victim to enormously conflicting emotions, he cannot remain bottled inside himself and retain sanity. The variations of his feeling are too radical for that. But the effect of his emotions can be tempered by his sharing them with another person. To do this he must reach out from the boundaries of his solitary existence and into the realm of another single set of emotions. This drive to extend outside himself is recognized as needs for love, for sharing, for concern, for reassurance. Having reached out, he can become part of communicative bonds that make him more capable of dealing with his emotions. Because one must always in his life be himself, he needs to become the best self he can become. He needs to make a self that can survive with the least possible scaring when, in a depression, he hates that self. He needs to do his living with the knowledge that tomorrow and the next day and on and on this day will live with him. No one can escape himself. Every minute of his life he must live on his own. Every memory he must know alone. And he must always be the same person through all that is bad and all that is good. MEL DUKE has ever done on Communism within the U.S. It only skimmed the surface of the conspiracy to seize our nation but most of what it presented was truth (although not the whole truth). It is too bad that Mr. McGhee did not also interview Maurice L. In this and subsequent columns I will present some of the substance of Mr. Malkins book, including his identification of secret Communists exposed for the first time. . We Are at War. It believed in trade unions as the only power source, and called on workers to seize industry. As a Marxist, I knew that political power came first it would be necessary to seize the government before we could take over industry. It will be a valuable asset to have it back into full production, said Glenn Davis, fisheries biologist for the Division of Wildlife Resources. Plans are to do just that as biologists chemically treat the lake this week to remove nongame species, the target of the project is the Utah chub, a strong competitor with more desirable games species. Aircraft will drop 65,000 pounds of powdered rotenone mixed with 60,000 gallons of water over the lake to eliminate the fish. Aerial Applicators, Incorporated will pilot a torpedo bomber with an 800 gallon capacity, and a DC 6 with a 2,700 gallon capacity from Bryce Canyon airport. In all, some 32,000 acre feet of water wil be treated. The fish are edible after rotenone treatment. Licensed anglers will be allowed to salvage one trout possession limit during the project. Access to the reservoir will be restricted during the times that the chemical is being applied from aircraft. The lake will be restocked with small catcahables (7-- inches) in and open again for fishing June 1, 1974. Sorry, wait till next year! Wait til next year. That was the advice of Bureau of Land Management district managers to persons wanting to gather pine nuts. William G. Leavell, BLM Acting State Director for Utah, said pine nut production throughout the state this year is very poor. However, it takes two years for a pine nut crop to develop and the indications are that next year should be a prime year for pine nut harvesting, if the weather is favorable for their growth. Trees with mature cones this year are scattered and most cones are in the topfe of the arger trees. There is a fair crop of Pinus edulis nuts but these are smaller and less palatable than the Pinus monophylla (single leaf pine) variety.
