It really makes a delightful vacation but it destroys the real reason for the holiday. Memorial Day was not practiced until 1868. General John A. Logan had a day in May set aside to strew flowers and in other ways decorate the graves of those who fought in the Civil War and gave their lives to save the Union. Later the name of the day was changed from Decoration Day to Memorial Day. and more states this holiday. adopted Bv the time all of the States adopted May 30 as Memorial Day. Congress decided to make sure that the holidays came on a weekend in order that the workers could realty have time to have a short vacation. Therefore Memorial Day is gone and forgotten (practically) bv the time we older are used to celebrating it. It is right that we remember those who gave their lives to save our Nation, but it is also right that we remember our dead who have not fought for our freedom. Every right" implies a responsibility, but that responsibility is not an obligation. but an opportunity. Some people are always on hand just when help is needed, and they have a special talent for being helpful. All of us can think of certain friends who seem to sense when they are needed. Isnt it delightful to have someone offer to help you just when you wondered if you could possibly do a certain job? I. for one. have had that happen to me. Communities are really an extension of families. Some family members are very close to each other and whenever there is a big job to be done, the other members of the family always are on hand to help with the job until it is completed. For instance, when one member of the family moves to a new home, all of the other members do whatever they can to assist in getting settled in the new home. There seems to be a tendency to form family especially corporations, if there is a business which can be shared by the different family members and each member has a certain task to perform. The plan works beautifully just as long as each member does all he is supposed to do and does not find fault with -- Treat! mom 5:30 p.m. ft Wtbttdtf tin Smdtf THE RUSTIC KITCHEN MIGHT & GERALPIHE CHURCH OmrtOponftn FttMuj BARBSC0S0 SPARSRIBS SISAK SHRIMP HOMBHAPSPISS HOMS C00KIHS 0URSPSCIA11Y Weekdays 743-535- i |
