Dutson FILLMORE R by STELLA DAY Once more the members of the East Millard Fine Arts Guild can be proud of the accomplishments made as a group during the club year of 1980-8The closing convention for the Nebo First District was held Saturday, April 27, at Nephi, where several car loads of an members enjoyed outstanding program rethe viewing progress made by the various club participants from Spring-ville- , Payson, Spanish Fork, Nephi, Delta area and Fillmore area. The headquarters of the General Federation of Women's Gubs is in Washington D.C. The general programs outlined for each club year consist of programs giving current information from the various departments sponsored by the General Federation of Womens Gubs in these Ed- ucation, Home Life, International Affairs, Public Affairs, The Arts, Community Improvement. Affiliate Gubs of the GFWC are found in nearly every nation of the world, and are helping to raise the status of women the world over. The women who attended the convention in Nephi, loaded the trunks of their cars with articles to enter in the Exhibit of Arts and Crafts. The exhibit was of superior quality and was judged by those in attendance, each guest having one vote. The East Millard Fine Arts Guild won first place both in the District and in the State for having gained the most new members. Mrs. William S. Meyers, our State President gave our President, Algie Stephensen five dollars to present to Lee Townsley, our memfor chairman bership gaining the most new members of any club in the siaic (over 50 new members). Our President elect, Joleen Stephenson, entered one of the most interesting childrens play books I have ever seen and certainly it should go to the state exhibit. Mary Johnson had an exhibit which would be difficult to equal, llena Tomkinson had many of her delightful paintings. There were many excellent entries from other members of our club, but since I soon tire of standing, I did not see all of the exhibits dose enough to see the names of the owners, but they would do credit to any artist in the field of Arts and Crafts. I was so proud of our club and very happy that I am a member of such a talented group. 1 could not help judge as 1 can't stand long enough to do justice to such an outstanding display. We divided into six groups and each group had a turn of being instructed in the objectives of each department, which was exceptionally interesting and informative. The District Officers had spent hours preparing for this convention and each of us who attended came home full of gratitude that we belong to such an uplifting organization. The General Federation of Womens Clubs is such a powerful womens organization that the Congress of the United States always gets the opinion of the National Otliccis ol our organization before trying to pass any new legislation, since they know that any law which the women of the United States do not favor, will have a difficult time being enforced. More and more, women are preparing to themselves accept public offices, which will be a benefit to the whole nation, since women have the raising of the children much more than do the men, and by the time they enter public life, the children are generally married and have children of their own. Women are generally more practical than men and are thriftier. They are used to working longer hours and receiving less money. If women had their way, there would never be another war. If all of the women of the United States joined together, we might elect a woman as the next President of the United States (of course, we want President Reagan to serve two terms).
