Show Moapa to Vegas Motorcycle Race Brings Local Club Fame By Elite Fuller The annual run, which covers 140 miles of desert terrain between Moapa Valley and Las Vegas, saw lots of Sugarloafers gathering the gold, at least in trophies. Fifteen club members rode, and were supported and pitted by around fifteen other members. This race requires the pit crews to set up at three different gas slops along the course and requires lots of coordination. The three pits were taken care of by 1st; Doug Stanworth, l.aura Thomas, and Cathy Baker. 2nd; Todd Turner, Shaync Thomas, and Gene Henrie. 3rd; Jay Warnick, Steve Young, and Rob Fuller. As for the racers, the Sugarloafers had the most from any club entered, had the highest percent of finishers, and took home 18 percent of the trophies given. That is against a field of 239 riders. The Groundshakers from Las Vegas Club sponsored the event. They gave the Sugarloafers special thanks and admiration. Don Fuller, long time pro rider had the first place at the hill where the racers dropped out of our sight. By the time they arrived at the first pit he had dropped to third, and after getting a flat tire, finished 6th overall, and 2nd in his class. He was closely followed the whole race by Kevin Bogue, who rides and works for R and R Services. Kevin got by Don after his tire went flat, and finished 4th overall, and 1st in his class. Delta race ace, Kevin Jones rode an amazing race, with a flat front tire for over 100 miles without losing ground. He finished 7th overall, and 3rd in his class. mild Henrie, Thayne mannered farmer from the west side, flew faster than a speeding bullet, to 1st in his class, and 36th overall. Mike Underwood, a Sugarloafer from Salt Lake, turned 59th overall and llth in his class. Richard Henrie, hard riding Delta resident, powered to 2nd in his class and 60th overall... Not far behind was kobert Hutchings. Salt Lake Club member, for 63rd overall and 6th in his class. Doug Smith, moving up fast in competence, picked up the pace to place 86th overall, and a big 3rd in his class. Delta Mark Lovell, newcomer to racing, placed 3rd in his class and 81st overall. Mike Stanworth, Delta powerhouse, charged to 4th in his class and 101 overall. Number 139 overall fell to Mike Thomas, making him 8th in his class. Club racers who did not finish, due to mechanical problems were Dan Bringard, Ron Baker, and Mark Turner, and Gary Shrutz. All riders with 5lh or better in their class receive trophies. Great going and a special thanks to those who helped pit crews. Kevin's dad, Ed Bogue, came from Salt Lake to help, and Ellie Fuller followed the race slopping at each pit to help the front racers. All of the Sugarloafers, except Kevin Jones on a Kawasaki, arc mounted and maintained by R and R Yamaha of Fillmore. Although this race doesnt count for season trophies in our district it was great to gel together and have such a successful event. The course was free of dust due to recent rain, and there were no serious rider injuries, good news for such a long demanding race. Also several Tribute to Eva W.
