Bunker Publisher Jane Wilton - & Editor Marge Barton Reporter Photographer Compositor Display Ads isn't enough that we have to worry over freezing to death because fuel is so expensive that we can't afford to heat i.ur houses, nor can we afford to eat enough to keep us from dying of starvation, now we have the threat of war hanging over us. We are so busy worrying that we don't have time to do our work. Those of us who have lived through two World Wars know that it does no good to worry about a third World War, but that doesn't slop us from panicing. One reason we. who have lived through the two wars, lead the list of worriers is the fact that we need strong, efficient leaders now more than ever before, and we simply dont have them. We have plenty of politicians, but can you think of any group of strong, honest, efficient people whom you would be willing to put your entire trust? Sometimes a crisis develops leadership. Let us pray that will be the case now, not only in the United States but in every nation which joins with the United States in helping to guard the fieedom of the peoples id the world. Russia has been taking advantage of every situation which has embarrassed the United States. She has poured soldiers and war materials into Cuba, in order to have a close base for attacking the United States. Our leaders know of her acitivities. but have done nothing to stop her. Right now Russia is in the process of taking over Afghanistan and all of the nations of the world are worried. However, no line had done anything to stop Russian activities. Russia claims that Afghanistan asked her to help them put down a rebellion, since no government is supposed to interfere with the internal troubles of another government. But Russia is a past master of taking over other countries. Right after World War Two, she tiKik over Czechoslovakia and no one attempted to stop her. She waits until the opport unc t inic and seems to get away w ith her plans. She divided the city of Berlin and built a wall around fast Berlin and nobody stopped her, in this age when people are supposed to be free. Russia was not wartorn as she did not enter World War Two until the war was practically over, and she has been other nations ever since then. She waited until the United States was involved with Iran before she entered Afghanistan, and helped to promote a Hate" program against the United States. When the United States asked the United Nations to join her in a resolution demanding that Iran release those United Stages hostages, the resolution passed, but Russia vetoed it. So long as Russia has veto power the United Nations are helpless. Russia has been delaying the committee meeting between the members of the SALT Committees in order to keep the United States from stockpiling war materials, while they have continued to stockpile new types of war materials until they have become stronger than any nation on earth. That doesn't mean they can conquer the world, since the United States was not prepufed for war at all when they entered Wotld War Two, but we immediately began to turn every manufacturing plant into manufacturing war materials ana? of course, we know the- rcstrtr But really, no nation really wins a war, for every nation suffers terribly from war. and all of us should use every cl Ion possible to avoid war. One reason we lack outstanding leadership today may be because so many of our brilliant young men and girls were killed in World War Two. We at least have learned that Russia cannot be trusted, since she has proved that she is out to conquer to world. Just as vMit as there is internal trouble in any of the small nations i.f Africa or South America. Russia sends t loops into that country, and before we realize what has happened, Russia has taken over one more count! v. Perhaps this time the nations of the world, who i callv believe in freedom of all people, will unite to stop the spread of Communism, and Russia will realize she cannot go any further or she will be Kvcn Russia icsponsible for World War Three. should realize she can't police the whole world. I bet it took a lot of work to teach children that long, but it was probably fun. Mrs. Richards says, "Learning is joyful and everybody enjoys learning if instruction is presented in such a manner that lie or she is able to profit by it. Of course, the learner must do his share, too. I believe that the knowledge we gain is one thing we can carry out of this life; therefore, teaching can be the noblest profession, for we teach for eternity."
