IN 4-- ITS 85th Friday, November 30, 1979 VOLUME 85, NUMBER 48 YEAR 4-- 4-- A MEMORABLE DAY FOR FILLMORE WATER USERS r By Max B. 1) Nichols, Secretary After several years of dedicated work few farsighted individuals, on November l1). 1979, the installation of Fillmores pressure irrigation sprinkling system was started. On this day about 800 feet of 8 inch water pipe was buried along Deer Pasture Hoad. A low bid by George W. Johansen Construction Company of $34.1,132.45 was accepted by the Board of Trustees of the Water Users on November 2, 1979 and a contract was signed. THis is the cost of installing the system from the settling pond to all members south of Canyon Hoad (200 South). The cost of installing the system north of Canyon Road is estimated to be about the same amount and shall begin during 1980 if all goes well. The whole project would be impossible without the help of the Utah State Board of Water Resources. Since the Fillmore Water Users by a Association was incorporated in 1975, vast majority (95) of the water owners have supported this project by The many joining the association. delays in starting the project have mainly been caused by the small who refused to become minority members. Further, the cost of these delays caused by inflation is surely a large amount. I he irrigation system is designed to eliminate the large amount of water wasted in the past by seepage in all the old ditches. Almost everyone in tow n has traced their water up the ditch because bv the time it arrived at their property it had diminished to a trickle. Also, the middle of the night turns will be eliminated. Now that the Water Users can see some action, the future assessments should have more meaning and Fillmore w ill be even more beautiful to live in. a (5) Fillmore Library to be Educational Information Center Ruth Strvrns (right, a lor d' voted service, as a 4-- 4-- County Commissioner Harold Stewart is presented with a plaque lor his help ano The Fillmore Public Library has been Leader Patsy Robison told the commissioner, support of the. program. as the new location for an chosen ve We enjoyed working with you this year and hope to continue to serve the youth Information Center (F.IC) Educational Photos courtesy USU Extension Service ol this country with your help." introductory file.
