After moving from Idaho to Holden, Utah, the members of the Randolph Tecplcs family, along with other families, were called to help settle Arizona. Just before they were ready to leave, the man who was to drive one of the wagons for the Tecplcs familv refused to go. which made it necessary for Beatrice, the oldest child, to do the driving. Marion Owens, son of James Clark and Lucretia Proctor Robison Owens, was driving the cattle, since his father's family had joined the caravan at Fillmore, He left with the cattle each morning before the wagons were ready to leave and sometimes, when he was far enough ahead of the wagons, he would leave the cattle grazing on the wild grass while he came hack to help Beatrice drive her well loaded wagon which was pulled by four horses. After many harrow ing experiences such as crossing the Colorado, and over dangerous mountain trails, they reached the Gila River in Arizona and made a settlement which they named Pima. Arizona. They built a dam in the Gila River to get the water on their crops; however, like the dam in the Sevier River, the dam kept washing out and the crops were a failure. After jus over a year of courtship, Marion and Beat rie. were married January I, 1880. the first marriage in Pima. Arizona. A few months after their marriage. Marion and Beat riif moved to Woodruff. Arizona, where Marion's father. James Clark Owens, his brother and his sons were building a dam in the Gila River. They lived in one room of the old fort in Woodruff. Just before Christmas. Marion took Beatric back to Pima to live with her folks during the winter months. On June 6. 1881. Marion William, first child of Marion and Beatrice, was born. Beatrice moved back to be with her husband in Woodruff. Harriet Lucretia. the second child of Beatrice and Marion, was born November 4. 1882. and on April 4. 1883. the family, having traveled to St. George, were scaled in the temple there. June 5. 1883. William Randolph Tceplcs. father of Beatrice, died leaving a young widow w ith four small children. The widow. Harriet Betsy Cook Teeples (mother of Beatrice) moved from Pima.
