It became apparent to city officials during the past winter season that the current power rates were not keeping pace with increasing costs. Wholesale power costs, which had been estimated for the 1979-8- 0 year at $280,000.00 actually reached $392,000 and further increases in the cost of wholesale power had. been announced for the coming year. Utah Power and Light Company, from whom the City, Intermountain through Consumer Power Association buys some power, will increase wholesale costs 35 percent on September 11, 1979 and Bureau of Reclamation power beginning January 1, 1980 will cost 38 perThese in' cent more. creases alone require a 26 percent raise in Fillmores retail rates. There was no alternative but to increase consumer rates. Inasmuch as the new wholesale will costs take effect during the coming year, the City will increase retail rates in two steps-- an average 18 percent increase on July 1, 1979 and an average 21 percent increase on January 1, 1980. It is the endeavor of Fillmore City to hold costs and rates at the lowest possible point and still maintain a system that is adequate and It financially sound. should be noted that even though these increases are depressing news, when put into effect Fillmore's electrical rates will compare with the present rate charged Utah Power and Light retail customers. in Published Millard County Progress July 27. 1979 SAME RATES SINCE 1970 5 lines or less $1.00 SELGAES one-tim- i 3? jf sme j CI 743-697- 3 2xpk7-2- The "Bubbling Babysitters" display kits made In projects to be entered In the fair.
