Exhibitor may Columnist The real progress and development of the United States has been inspired and implemented by a tiny fraa ion of its population at any given time in our history, and, in particular, concerning the several states which make up our union, have had their growth and development inspired by but a few, which in turn, has made our nation the greatest in all the world. this context of national and state leaders, I shall refer to only three persons because of their great and unselfish dedication, although, there were many others who have met the challenge of their times (such as Mr. Lincoln), to the United States of America as a nat ion and to the fulfillment of its separate states, its country, its cities, and its towns, as provided in the Tenth Amendment in the Bill of Rights. 153 years ago on this date, July 4, 1826, John Adams, our second president, at age 90, lay dying. His alarmed family, aware that the end of his life was minutes away, aroused Mr. Adams by saying, "Do you know what day this is?" and John Adams, in his final words, answered. Why yes, it is the glorious Fourth of July, and thank God, Mr. Jefferson still lives." not know ing that Thomas Jefferson's soul also took flight on that very same day with Mr. Adams on In July 4. 1826. After being picked, they should then be plunged up to their necks in tepid water. To cut, a sharp knife should be used and the cut made on a slant. Place the cut flowers in a cool place, out of drafts, to harden overnight. This procedure should be followed for any variety which is being planned for display at the fair. After overnight the hardening flowers can then be arranged in any fashion chosen by the exhibitor. This hardening process may play a big part in the final judging as well as having a decided effect on the quality of the flower show. Section K One basket, any flower, same variety, same color. 1.
