Queen Guinevere, BY STELLA DAY themselves, but unless these nations are willing to sacrifice and do their full share of the work which it takes to develop and build new industries, we are wasting our resources in trying to assist people who only half heartedly enter into the work of developing their own country. Those who have traveled in many of the countries of the world, realize that most of the Nations think of Americans as rich, not matter if you have saved for years in order to visit these countries. They really beleive that whatever they can get from Americans will never be missed, so why bother to pay back the ' money they borrow. If we compare the few possessions of the average family in most any foreign nations, we will soon realize why they think we are rich. We take our refrigerators, washers, dryers, electrical appliances, cars, and trucks as necessities, but very few families in foreign countries even have a refrigerator. The rich of all those countries enjoy all of the luxeries, but the average family such as we are in our country, have few electrical appliances and cars are very rare. Many of the Americans who do drive cars, and live in houses filled with luxuries, still owe for them, the home is seldom free from payments until the children are still through college, but credit is so easily obtained in the United States, that is has become a Money is difficult to borrow in other way of life. countries, thus the people are forced to live within their means. Americans would be happier if they were forced to lived more economically, since it is a strain to have to meet payments every month of our lives. We would all be happier too, if the goverment would set the example by living within the budget each year. Preseident elect Carter has promised to balance the budget, we will all be surprised if he does, since each president since I can remember has made the same promise. Since one of our most important duties is to be active, alert, cooperative citizens of the United States of America, each of us should give some thought to the fact that we have just elected a relatively unknown citizen, from a very small community in Georgia, as the President of the United States. Up to the present time, it has been the custom to select the candidates for President from men who have served in the Congress or Senate of the United States, or from those who have served in other capacities which would furnish the candidates with information and for dealing with affairs of National experience importance. Jimmie Carter, a relatively unknown as a National character, has only served as Governor of Georgia. In 1973 he was a guest on the T.V. Show "Whats My Line, not one of those experts who make it their business to acquaint themselves with National characters, prominent in National affairs, could identify Jimmie Carter. In a way, this is reassuring to the youth of America, proving that any one who sets his goal to become President, and then works diligently toward that goal, may some day be the President of the United States. Although Mr. Carter has been elected President, he has yet to prove his ability to fulfill that office, and only time will prove the wisdom of that election. There are so many doubtful alliances into which our country may become involved which can only be properly handled if our diplomats know the background of each country with whom we are to become allied. For instance, after World War II the U.S. loaned billions of dollars to the nations whose cities and industries had been destroyed by bombs, however very few of these nations have ever made an effort to repay thoese depts. Yet we go on pouring more millions into underdeveloped countries, and taking our own country farther and farther into debt. I believe in assisting nations who are really striving to assist McBride family Duanes family of Gene McBride and Lillian gathered at the home of Mack 'and Susan McBride at Granger, Utah on Sunday Dec. 19, for a Dinner.
