Another unexpected thrill for Lillian was a tour through the mill where her father used to work as a card cutter. Except that the machinery Is now run by electricity, and the women weavers can now t.andle about six machines Instead of two, she says the Inside of the buildings looks just the same when her mother was a weaver just as noisy and dirty. This was the first time she had ever been through the entire mill. In a neighboring shire, Lancashire, they visited Lillians cousins, the Fred Dalbys who live In a beautiful home overlooking the bay near Blackpool Because of staying overnight, they wete able to watch the tide go out and come tn again next day before they left. From there they journeyed to Glasgow, Scotland on the train still using their Bril Rail passes which they discovered saved them a great expense they would otherwise have had. They took a bus tour one day to The Trossacks and Loch Lomond, Loch Long and a number of other large and beautiful lakes. Lock Long resembles a Norwegian Fjord In that Is as deep as one, and at one time during the war It was used to test submarines. The following day because It was scheduled to be a rainy day, they boarded another train and spent many pleasant hours riding up the east coast of England as far as Aberdeen and obtained a good view of the North Sea. They browsed through the station while waiting the next trali back toGlasgow. That was a most unusual day, they said. Thp weatherman was kind to It so happened there them. were only three times when they experienced rainy days. Seems they were In the right place at the right time during the 30 days away from home. The last two days tn Englard were spent In once more touring famous places In London: the chanlng of the guards at Buckingham Talace and a boat ride on the T'uames from the Tower of London to Westminster, arriving Just as Big Ben was chiming 8 oclock - but It can hardly be heard these days above the din of the traffic.
