As a young child Barbara used to bring home stray kittens and puppies to take care of and broken toys from the kids at school for her dad to fix. As site grew older she began to learn the wonderful feeling of earning her own money. First she tended little children till she was old enough to work other places. Her first full time summer Job was at the Elementary School during the sum mer of 9th grade. This was onthe Neighborhood Youth Corps where she has worked for 2 12 years. She has also had the oportunlty of working at the Elementary In the and 3rd grade age groups as a teachers aid. Here she has done art work for the teachers and worked on a basis with a number of the students tn the 3rd grade. She Is now working for dents. Mr. Dallln S. BE ING A I E CA L SEC R E TA RY am now working for an orchestra that practiced at noon. When he ate, 1 had no Idea. In the summers he would use his own car to bring the students from out of town Into summer band. After an hour of marching and concert practice he would load them back into his car and start off for thetr homes. I remember many times seeing his little car loaded down with laughing kids and heading for Scipio or Kanosh. At the time I wondered why he spent so much time with band, but as the years have passed I can see that he was trying to impart to us Just a little of th e love for the music he has. No one in the area can deny that ids efforts have paid off. The Royal Blue and White of the Flying Eagles makes our hearts swell with pride as we see it coining down the street in a parade. I want to say thanks to Mr. Nielsen on behalf of the hundreds of students he has helped along the way to a richer, fuller life with the appreciation of music he has given the,. One cant mention Mr. Nellsen without bringing his charming wife Cathryn Into the picture. Never liking to single out particular students or small groups except where their desire and ambition put them In that position, he has tried rather tohelp every last child In our community to discover music and enjoy it as he had. He is especially happy that his own three fine children have enjoyed music along with thetr dad. Dallln taught six years tn Richfield before World War II, then spent four years in the U.S. Air Corps, two years over seas. He taught nine years at M lllard, four years at Bear River High and Is now in his 14th year back at Millard. To discover music and to perform it well means to Dallln attaching oneself to good and worthwhile to aspire to and work for. To establish this quality in ones life Is important to everyone. But particularly during school years It It necessary to find something that Is a worthy goal and makes you feel you are developing a talent and being proud of your organization. Other than the music Itself, theres dedication, loyalty and excellence all kinds of good citizenship Involved In belonging to a good music group, and this makes It alt worthwhile to the participants. Especially rewarding are the hundreds of wonderful students who have been loyal and enthusiastic members of the music groups in the schools here and who are now enjoy- - rm r r rrrrrrrrTrrn r i utt ..l Y( II.' vD IlLYrnM' y.: Iw - IS Cftj2 j'"J tion has been to teach Integrity and highest Ideals, both tn music and personal behavior. But what remains Is a close feeling for all those who have practices together, that something good was attempted and brought pleasure to the listeners. Tender memories both for the music and the associations are yours for the rest of your life. A new generation is sometimes restless, thinking that to prove you're part of today you have to consider yesterday But there is a timelessness about good music and the positive Influence it has on our lives that makes It team with spirituality to give us sublime feelings. As Bishop Nielsen" now, Dallln Nielsen links Ihese two together In his own life with absolute sincerity and dedication.
